Music from movies
What scores from what movies do you like the best? I've always seen that even if a movie sucks, if a composer arranged a decent musical score for an orchestra to play, the movie doesn't suck so bad.
You can probably guess it for me what my favorite one is (John Williams and his works for Star Wars).
I also admire the music from Hellraiser and all the movies in the series, especially Hellraiser; Bloodline. The song played with Pinheads first introduction in the middle of the movies so chilling yet so uplifting and moving.
Then there's the score used in "Batman Begins." Really enhanced the quality of the movie. And it's so different from the other Batman movies, but it works.
These are just the few I can think of at the second. And sorry if there was a similar thread done like this. YEs, I didn't bother using the search engine because it's pointless for me; I never find any dupicate thread, but they are apparently there, and someone else finds them. So I apologize if this has been done before.

Good thread. A few favourites of mine:
Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky
Morricone's Spaghetti westerns
Williams' Star Wars
Queen's Flash Gordon
Kamen's Band of Brothers
Doldinger's Das Boot
Probably a lot more which I'm forgetting.
Since video games fall under the general category, I'll include some as well:
Operation Flashpoint
KOTOR I/II (I think some exclusive music was composed...though I'm not sure)
Chrono Trigger
Shinobi III
Again, I'm forgetting a few.

Ulver did some soundtracks. Namely for Lyckantropen, which I saw about a month ago and was just as incredible as the music composed for it.
I also know that Portishead was on the soundtrack for "The Craft" but I'm not sure if that counts.

I agree with Transient about the Terminator theme, strange that a typical action movie (albeit a very good one) would have such an amazing theme.
I know it's cliche, but I really liked the music that was used in Requiem for A Dream. The music during the part where Harry is taking to his girlfriend is great, as is the music during the ending sequence.
Edit: Also, since blizzard_beast mentioned video game music, I will also add to that by stating that Chrono Cross has possibly the greatest video game soundtrack ever.

Call me crazy, but I think the music from the Incredibles was pretty nice. Most Disney movies have some great music.

Coil did the original soundtrack for Hellraiser, but was replaced by Christopher Young's score in the end. It'd be interesting to see the film with Coil's soundtrack. Completely different movie! Although not necessarily better
The album is floating around BitTorrent sites if you're interested.

Buffalo 66's soundtrack was awesome... Yes & King Crimson tunes integrated in it... Christina Ricci tap-dancing to 'Moonchild' = yum
As far as original movie soundtracks go I love Goran Bregovic's soundtrack to 'Arizona Dream' [wacky-assed surrealistic comedy from '93 with Jonny Depp.]
When it comes to game soundtracks, Chris Vrenna's work on 'American McGee's Alice' slays all.

Bernard Herrmann was the dude who changed how film scores could be done. He gave individual instruments their own microphone (rather than 1 microphone recording the whole room) so they sould be mixed higher therefore having quiet instruments being heard over louder ones which made for odd pairings. Often he omited certain instruments from the orchestra, (Psycho only uses the string section). He was also one of the first guys to use a theremin on a film score though I don't think he recieved credit for it.

Apparently they also worked on a Norwegian film, "Svidd Neger", I believe they have a CD for that as well.

My favorite score is RZA's work on the movie "Ghost Dog." It's a really good indie flick, and it won some awards. It's an underrated movie, most of you have probably never seen it, but I hope someone will look out for it now.
In an unrelated matter, Jizzard Beast now has the best avatar on the entire forum.

Yeah I think I forgot to mention Danny Elfman on my list earlier... huge influence on me. The 'Edward Scissorhands' soundtrack is awesome too, it's really introspective and disturbed but in a symphonic sort of way.
If nobody's mentioned him yet, Bernard Hermann is the fucking GUY.

Just downloaded the entire collection of Morricone scores for Leone movies. Awesome, just awesome. The theme "My Fault" from My Name is Nobody has got to be one of the best pieces of duelling music, ever.

The Silent Hill movie had some great songs, although thats just because the took songs from the games. All 4 OST's from the games are great.

I sometimes like to just stick on a film score and relax whilst going about my daily business.
Star Wars original and Revenge of the Sith
The Lord Of The Rings the two Towers
The Passion of the Christ
And the ultimate in horror music film score...The Omen!

Dark City!
Fight Club (just so you guys know the song played in the bar is Tom Waits)
Man On Fire has some nasty bendy sounding parts.
I'll think of more later.

Recently bought that cd. Fucking Awesome. It's comparable to Dead Man (w/ johnny depp), which I thought had a decent score.
Games:
Yoshi's Island
