Obscure and Copy Brands
Anyone know of some obscure guitar brands that are really cool?
Or has anyone played a copy guitar that actually fealt BETTER than what it was copying?
I have/do on both accounts...
I've made thread about Westone before but I still swear by them..
Westone site:
www.westone.info
Some pretty sweet guitars:
http://www.westone.info/rail.html
http://www.westone.info/dynasty.html
http://www.westone.info/dimensioniv.html
As far as copy guitars I just picked up a 200 dollar 'Session' guitar that had been sitting in the shop for fucking years and years and years, it has pickups that are made by EMG in it called Select pickups, they sounded decent, but man the action and the speed in this rivaled the real thing I swear, and my mate has a jackson i play all the time so i have a fair idea! Anyway you can't fucking go wrong with a 200 dollar guitar anyway, i mean its 200 bucks who cares. Anyone know anymore cool or obscure brands?

One of my friends boyfriend has several quality axes (high$) but also has a Morris Hurricane
I never heard of it but it shreds...
It's a strat copy and has sharktooth inlays......not sure about the pickups but I have played it and the action rivals that of a 2K Les Paul.
He said he paid 100 for it used in a pawnshop.

There's this brand [cannot remember the name ] that has guitars that are made by the dude that came up with all the body concepts BC Rich uses. they are 10x cooler looking and way better quality too.

Luciferlad, you mean NEAL MOSER guitars. Sexy ass, although extremely extravagant guitars, moreso than many BC Rich's probably. They're all HANDBUILT from scratch so of course they're going to be MUCH better quality than any import assembly line guitar. But some custom models are worth a pretty penny, but I think I've seen a Bastard V going for 900$ on ebay once...
Edit: Oh yeah, nevermind Neal Moser also has some import models but they're all handbuilt apparently, look at this neckthrough bastard V:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Neal-Moser-Bast...VQQcmdZViewItem
The handbuilt customs are like 2000$.
Self built guitars > many Chinese copy brands that sell for as much.
I've had a bad experience with my Collins Flying V(a Gibby/Epi copy set neck mahogany V with a Floyd), the build quality was not as great as I expected so I do rather regret buying that guitar for 340€... With some obscure brands it's an extremely good idea to try them beforehand to make sure you're not gonna buy something that feels like a log.
The Westone IV is a copy of the Ibanez X series Destroyer from the 1980's, but I GUARRANTEE you that it won't play as well as the original Ibanez's. Some of you Chuck Schuldiner fans will like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Ibanez-X-series...1QQcmdZViewItem

Cool Ibanez, but Chuck used a custom made BC Rich Stealth for most of his career. Dunno whether an Ibanez X was part of his (small) collection, but could well have been.
That Neil Moser V has to be in the top 10 of the GAYEST guitars i've ever seen.

Oh I know he used a BCR Stealth, but hell that one looks hella familiar especially due to the color. Even the really low end Destoyer/X series from the 80's played really well. The Stealth and Ibanez X are basically just copies of the Charvel Star, which I think came after the BC Rich Ironbird(I think the Ironbird was introduced in 82' while the Charvel star is from like '84, then Kramer and Ibanez started copying them before they got into lawsuits. :P).
That's the NM Bastard V, they have less extravagant V models that look a hell of a lot better. Go over to their forums(the gallery at the NM site doesn't have a great deal of pics of cool looking customs) and check out some of the ones they have.

Tokai do Gibson and Fender copies very well.
And there is another Japanese comapny called 'Signature' who do Gibson copies and they are very good too. Same sort of quality for a much lower price tag.

Tokai... that also reminds me of Takamine. They're mostly an acoustic manufacturer from Japan but in the 80's they made a ton of cool metalish axes, mostly explorer, V's, and Star kinda copies in finishes you couldn't get from the brands they copied. They go for cheap if you can find them that is... Like set neck axes for 200 bucks, made in Japan quality...

Awesome I never knew that.
A friend of mine has a book on guitars which lists loads of manufacturers in alphabetical order (it's not comprehensive but has all the well known brands and a some that I'd never heard of) and it has various pictures of various models, and you see some awesome pointy guitars from the 80's when EVERYONE was building them.
