training needed
theres a bassist that just joined my band, but he has no clue how to play my kind of music. I play stuff like liquid tension experiment, basically john petrucci. Unlike most metal bands I like to write happy metal in a way kind of power metallish but different. I was wondering if someone could tab some sort of arpeggios on a 4 string bass for him. Im not sure how the arpeggio works for bass but if you can, it would be nice if it was very techicall but sensible.

Er
Sweepings do definitely not belong to the essencials of bass playing, in fact, i dont even think it sounds good on the bass.

Arpeggio's dont have to be sweeped though, so why is everyone talking about sweep picking?

generally, arpeggios are for sweeping a guitar.
we all have our opinions, but I think it would be lame just to use a straight arpeggio for a bassline.
what he should do is learn his minor scales, not just the arpeggios. If you know the scale than you can play the arpeggio for ANY pattern, it doesnt matter.
tattered, ive probably said something above with the wrong words, making me sound like a dumbass. Im sure you got the main idea though.

tell him to learn some bach and later some basic funk and metal lines, then he will be in the liquid tension experiment zone!!!! But yes definately classical will help in the metal realm of bass playing
