Best mic for gutturals

What's the best microphone for guttural vocals? Right now I've got a Hama DM-65 (60-15000 Hz, that's all I know about it), but I'm not very satisfied with it. I do mostly really low gutturals, but sometimes some screams and regular DM growls as well. I heard the Shure SM-58 is good, but I also heard it's better for clean singing than guttural singing, so what'd be the best microphone for me?

Go for any condenser mic in the $200 range, but always check Harmony Central or whatever for user reviews. You really kind of have to go with whatever you can afford. From my experience, sometimes just going with a dynamic in a good room will work better than a condenser, especially for more extreme brutal stuff.

Yeah people have told me SM-58 is good for anything. Condensers have the range and stuff, but I also hear they're only good for instruments so I'll have to go to the music shop in a couple days to try everything out.

Hardly, think about it. The human voice has the most dynamics and frequencies than any instrument, what better way to captivate it than using something that has the range and capabilities? Nah more often than not condensers are for vocals.

Yeah guess you're right on that one, except maybe the lower range audible frequencies (20-50 Hz) are next to impossible to get to with a grunt. Do you have any ideas what I could get for a cheap/midrange condenser mic? If I were to choose a dynamic mic it'd be easier, so SM-58 or Sennheiser E835, but for condensers I've been lookin at the AKG perception series (100 and 200) and the Studio Projects B1/3 and C1. Any opinions on these mics?

I wouldn't buy an AKG product if somebody paid me. How much are you looking to pay i got my GT55 Groove tube condenser from guitar center for like 225 i think. maybe 250. Its pretty solid if you ask me. Was recommended by a friend i have there.

I exhale most of the time, I don't really like inhales and think they're kind of skill-less (no offense), but then again some people might make them sound different, but on most people they sound the same regardless of practice, so no I only use inhales for cow and pig imitations lol. Anyways, I went to the music shop today and tried out the SM-58, and it's AWESOME compared to what I've got now. The bass response is excellent and it makes my grunts come out real well. The manager and clerk both told me that even for brutal death metal Shure SM-58 and dynamic mics rule supreme, not sure whether to believe that, but up to now the general opinion has been to get the SM-58, according to several people.

thats cool, Im primarily a bassist and I figured out the inhales in about ten minutes lol.
oh
only get a dynamic mic if you have a free hand to cup it with, I found that out myself. it doesnt mix well with trying to play an instrument.

I have a Beta 58. It kills the Shure 58. It has so much power and clarity in it.

With a good dynamic i dont think you'll even need to cup, SM-58 has got a pretty good proximity effect that'll show up your gutturals real well already, cause cupping kinda restricts it sometimes, so you could also just hold your mouth close to the mic. Anyways i'm only vocals, might pick up guitar again now but for the moment i'm keepin it that way (no money for a guitar ) I might be pickin up a USB of PCI recording thing though around christmas, that'd probably sound better than a pc mic input for vocals (pre-amp and stuff).
