Thornography

I know most of you don't like this band, but for those who do, here is a thread to discuss their latest album. (I searched and couldn't find one so sorry if I missed it.)

I've listened to this album three times now. The first time I heard it I was rather disappointed. Almost no keys at all throughout the album, and the songs in general are a lot simpler in terms of structure and riffs. Dani has also this time dabbled with cleanly sung vocals for the choruses of some tracks. This makes the album verge dangerously on the edge of Trivium/Shadows Fall territory. Saying that, I''m oly on the third time listening of it so I dont know if it will grow on me like "Nymphetamine"did.

Compared to the fucking masterpiece of Damnation and a Day, i think it's obvious they're missing their recently departed Martin on keyboards.

However, the album has it's strong points. The rise of the Pentagram is the only Cradle intsrumental that uses the full band and it definately has a feel similar to Metallica's "Orion".

It seems they have gone for a more stripped down sound and I don';t know if I like it.

How did everyone else find it? (And please dont fill this thread with the usual "CoF aren't true BM they're sellouts etc.)

Not much of a cradle fan. I know that most of what they do theatrically is for show, like lots of other rock bands have done. I liked Midian and damnation and a day. But anyway, SHadows fall rules! I don't think they shoudl be lumped together with trivium. They have a real big old school 80's thrash feel in a lot of their songs.

Sounds a lot like Nymphetamine, but it's more catchy.

holy shit... i'm actually diggin this. some songs, like Rise of the Pentagram, have an early melodic death metal vibe. some cool riffage here and there.

for Rise of the pentagram, yeah sounds a little melodic, but real melodic is 3 times faster, but sounds not bad

I listened to some of it form my friend's copy of it.

....yeah. Anyone who says they are an awesome black metal band are politically incorrect. In Nymphetamine, they were a poor black metal band, but a good Gothic Metal band. Now..... just Gothic Metal. There is no hint of Black Metal there, in my opinion.

The first song, I think it was, sounded like something from the Rogue Squadron game. haha.

I am not a huge fan, but I did like VEmpire, Midian, and Lovecraft. The keyboards is what made Cof ok for me to listen to. I definately do not consider them black metal by any means. I heard some of this new album and I thought it really sucked from beginning to end. I did not like the last one either, although that nyphetamine song had some great female vocals on them. That's a pretty good song. Dimmu Borgir on the other hand is considered black metal, no matter if you think they suck or not. They have satanism and black metal lyrics. That is what makes you black metal.

Slipknot? Black metal? Who said that? I think they were a bit confused about the band or the genre.

You said satanism makes you black metal. Slipknot uses the baphomet pentagram thing and 666 quite often. So they're black metal.

I think it was nothing more than a slip of the tongue.... a giant slip equivilant to using the slip n slide greased up with oil and doing it naked.... or something along those lines.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Metal

Slipknot definitely not black metal. If they are black metal, then I declare my band melodic stargrind darth-core.

agreed! and i must say, its nice to hear someone call Damnation and a Day a masterpiece. most people call it quits around Midian. i heard some of Thornography... no thanks. i probably heard some decent moments, but not enough to get my money. im a pretty big fan of everything from Vempire through Nymphetamine, i didnt like Principle, too sloppy. but yeah, its obvious that the music is suffering Martin's abscence. its also the guitarists fault, they are getting more boring riffs now

Oh, this is true, I did say that! Well, I take it back because that is a good point. I don't really know much about Slipknot, so I'll leave that to you. Well, most of the time, black metal incorporates satanism, and paganism. Though the vocals and music really determine if you're black metal.

I've heard two songs off Thornography, one which was decent, the other sucking horribly (I think it was a video with some non-fat chick singing), and I can't remember what either are called, so I won't be buying this album.

You likely heard Tempation and Dirge Inferno.

Tempation is a cover of an 80's pop band.

The other songs are ok though.

as for the album, i have it, havent had a chance to give it a listen yet, so ill do that and then pass judgement. i am a cradle fan, everything from invoking the unclean to nymphetamine.

Ahh, Takk! Thank you for you're compliment. I find that it is ridiculous to start an internet war with someone because of a subtle slip of the tongue. If I am wrong I would like to be corrected, else I will look like all of those idiots on here who make incorrect statements and start a fight about it.
