I am going to get this for X-Mas but...

I just want some oppinons on it. First.

http://www.musicyo.com/product_specs.asp?pf_id=190

And here are some questions.

Are these strings sold in stores?

Also would it be difficult to tune down to D standard on this baby? I know in the Lack Of Comprehension video by Death the second guitarist is using one tuned to D standard. I just want to know how hard it would be to put this in that tunning.

Steinberger's are cool.

I don't think it would be that hard to tune it around (notice tuners on bridge).

Only, depends on whether you're into maple bodies, and EMG select pickups.

If I got it, I would install 'too muddy in normal guitars' pickup (SD Invader) into the bridge position, and change the other pickups if I didn't like them.

I think they're ok, but not worth the hassle of ordering strings, new tuning method, etc. just to not have a headstock. And i've never seen a 7 string version

Well I think the EMGs would help the sound. Plus the low tunning would help add a lot of heaviness to the sound.

I don't like the shape, and the body wood seems to be a bit meh, but thats a good looking top.

i cant imagine playing without a headstock... i need that extra weight and balance... also i get nervous when my guitar is small... some kind of inferiority complex i have... but hey, if you dig it, totally go get it. Make yourself happy. Maple body though... you could definately throw in an invader and have it less-muddy-than-usual... that would kickass. the flame top is also sexy... mmmm...

Plus you get to look like a Paul Masvidal fanboy! You can certianly shred on Steinbergers, check Cynic or Alarum for some examples.

Yeah man a lot of Death Metal/Grind musicians use them like Paul Masvidal of Death, and even The Berzerker. I'm going to use it to play a lot of Napalm Death, Death, Necrophagist, Terrorizer, and others. I'll think about a pickup change. It might not be as muddy as people think if it is i'll change it. I can't really go wrong for the price and it will be a nice to check out. Also I just found out that D'addario Strings make Steinberger Double Ball Guitar Strings. I never knew that. So it might not be as difficult to find strings as I thought.
