yet another which ones better thread...

hey
im seriously thinking about getting a valve amp soon and i was looking at the 6505. it seems perfect for me, but i have just seen the blue voodoo by crate. i was just wondering how it compares to the 6505 and which one you think is better. ive been getting into death metal a lot lately, however i still like other types of metal (most of which you wont like) such as slipknot, chimaira, nevermore, cob, slayer, killswitch engaged etc etc. will this amp be able to handle all my tastes?

thanks a lot
cheers

To be honest my experience with teh blue voodoo is seriously that it can give you any taste you want. It takes some eqing and some adjusting of knobs.. but you can get some drastically different tones using teh blue voodoo. I currently own 2 blue voodoo amps and i must say.. god damn, they are teh shit.

Blue voodoo's come cheap used too, plus your sound will be a lot more unique compared to all the 5150-toting -core bands.

BV: cleaner cleans, more rectified type distortion. 3 separate channels for 3 separate voicings. Very colourful distortion, you can get so much out of this amp. I've heard everything from sparkly cleans, to brown sound, to straight up rock, punk, and then cannibal corpse style gain. Not super tight/responsive sounding, as are all rectifier types

6505: shite cleans, gritty raw and sterile distortion, almost impossible to add colour or character to the tone. Good for anythingcore, black metal, and some death metal. Since its EVH designed, you can probably get brown sound out of it... but it would probably difficult. Super responsive and tight, you pick it, it plays it, no delay. The attack is almost solid-state esque.

No amp is "best". I get sick of people asking which one is better. Its as if people cant accept that everything is different. Go try some fucking amps and make a decision on your own, you dont need us to hold your hand.

Thats a really good post. To be honest in my own opinion, almost every amp is about the same damn thing. There are differences yeah.. but i think honestly as long as the amp has quality to back it up, it doesn't matter. I think this goes with guitars for the MOST part, although there are some things about guitars such as pickups, weight, and some design (sound differences as a result) that can vary by preference. But seriously, what sounds best to one could sound like shit to another.

Yeah.. haha get the blue voodoo if you want to waste your time on a tube amp that as fizzy as any SS amp.

the 6505 will alteast give you some dimension. The whole 6505, 5150 core garbage is stupid. I've heard some of the nicest doom/death/tech tones come out of 6505+'s and 5150 II's.

Casey, shut up. BV's are fine, especially if you dont have the extra cash to drop on a 5150.
BV at least has a good clean channel, much better than a 5150's.

The clean part is completely true.. 5150's can be had at $500 used.. which is just as cheap as most BV's.
