This can be pretty songs or heavy songs
Morbid Angel-Desolate Ways
Pink Floyd- Wish you were here
Black Label Society- This River
Pantera- Cemetary Gates
Stone Sour- Through the Glass (flame on)
intro and largo movement from Dvorjak's 9th
Deftones- Change
Lamb of God-Vigil
Leonard Cohen- Hallelujah
Metallica- The Ecstasy of Gold (basicly the whole S&M album)
NIN- Hurt
Pearl Jam- Yellow Ledbetter
Pearl Jam- Black
System of a Down- Chop Suey
Type O Negative- Electrocute
There are alot more, but I guess I can only think of the ones that will get me flamed.

How can you dislike Pantera, BLS, and Pink Floyd? I can understand some of the others I guess, but I like classical music and have pretty broad tastes. But thanks for the contribution

that is why i and i would suspect most people on this forum listen to music. i dont know why that wouldnt happen to you
anyways this thread was made once as the official eargasm thread but i wouldnt expect you to search for "eargasm"
now you know , though, that feeling has a specific name.

of course I mean chills in a good way; it is sometimes almost spiritual for me. The only time I can remember listening to something that scared me was listining to Korn's Daddy when I was like 7 years old.
I am dling a bunch of these songs, so all the input is great. Except Requiem. Because he is a non-chill-bump-motivated music listener...........

No offense to Requiem, but I see him in a picture; Him and his metalhead posse Chilling out by a pimp mobile that has been totally metalized, listening to Death with the bass turned up all the way, and he and his friends are just bobbing their heads up and down.

There are a whoel bunch for me but right now I would have to say the whole "Colony" album by In Flames does it every time for me. Especially track 8, Resin. That is Anders' growl at its fiercest.

Summoning-Intro for Lugburz. Dagor Bragolloch. Through the forest of Dol Guldur. Long lost to where no pathway goes. Like some snow-white marble eyes. In hallow halls beneath the fells. Farewell.
Ancient Rites-Mother europe. Aris. Fatherland. Victory or Valhalla. And the horns called for war. North sea. Ode to ancient europa. Lindisfarne. On golden fields. Dim carcosa. Invictus. Barbantia.

Cradle of filth-too many, really.
Dimmu Borgir-In death's embrace. Master of disharmony. A succubus in rapture . Alt lys er svunnet hen. Broderskapets ring. Kings of the carnival creation.
Blind Guardian-Under the ice. Nightfall. Mirror mirror. Time stands still.
In Flames-Too many.
Mourn in silence-Heaven's sword. Decaying. Color of grace. Gloria in excelsis deo. From heaven.
Fear Factory-Scumgrief. Self bias resistor. Zero signal. Replica. Pisschrist. High tech hate. Resurrection.
Uhrilehto-History has its scars. Aliencity of deprivement.
Death-1,000 eyes. Empty words. Voice of the soul.
Skyfire-Too many
Lord Belial-Path with endless horizons. Lamia. Forlorn in silence. Realm of a thousand burning souls (part 1)

Evermork-Autumn meteor shower.
Leatherstrip-No rest for the wicked

My list...
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were
Dimmu Borgir - Sorgens Kammer (I hate Dimmu, but this song really wells me up for reasons Id rather not get into)
Tesla - Little Suzi
Death - Voice Of The Soul
Severed Savior - Death Is Just The Beginning
Led Zeppelin - Achilles Last Stand
Led Zeppelin - Dyer Mker
Judas Priest - One Shot At Glory
Tom Petty - Running Down A Dream (probably one of the only songs I can listen to on this list while keeping a straight face)
Black Sabbath - Sweet Leaf
The Cult - Eddie (Ciao Baby)
Iced Earth - Something Wicked This Way Comes
Megadeth - Liar
Carcass - Buried Dreams
Johnny Cash - Hurt
The All-American Rejects - Dirty Little Secret (dont ask me why...I despise the song, and I despise the band, but theres something about this song, again, which Id rather not discuss, that really moves me, even though it completely blows)
So, yeah, surpringly, thats my list. These songs get to me every time and all hold personal meaning for me :/ After listening to em I always feel the need to break out the brutal Satanic death metal stuff just to balance me back to normal. Meh

All of the Silent Hill 2 Soundtrack. Really creepy.
There, There- Radiohead.
Sigur Rós: Untitled 7 & 8 freak me out, and Saeglopur
Requiem for a Dream main theme...
Opeth's The Grand Conjuration.
Jeff Buckley: Mojo Pin (esp. Studio Version)
Metallica: The Unforgiven (okay not really, but the lyrics scare me)
Diary Of A Madman- Ozzy
Samson- Regina Spektor
Windows to the Soul- Steve Vai
Caruso- Andrea Bocelli
Of course there are hundreds more, and maybe thousands depending on the mood I'm in, that could send chills down muy spine. A lot of classical stuff too(Concierto d'Aranjuez). I'm liking these lists so far.
More: and Frou Frou's "Let Go" just popped into my head too, beleive it or not!

opeth- benighted, leper affinity, sillhouette
death-voice of the soul, lack of comprehension, trapped in a corner, scavenger of human sorrow
cynic- im but a wave to, sentiment, textures, basically the whole album
coroner- many of the songs
pestilence- testimony of the ancients, and spheres ( the whole albums)
spiral architect- spinning, insect ( the bass work)
adrian davison- bass symphony ( most of the whole album)
tourniquet- the skeezix delimna
extol- justified, renhethens elv, tears of bitterness ( one of my favorite songs ever, period)
believer- the whole trilogy of knowledge
antestor- rites of death, martyrium ( the whole album)
ayreon- 2084, carried by the wind, alot of his whole albums are beautiful
blind guardian- battlefield, under the ice, tons of their stuff is great, night at the opera was considered not their best work, but it was very epic, and certain parts are very good.
Slechkvalk- under the moonlit sky
Nile- lashed to the slave stick, burning pits of the duat
dream theater- fortune in lies, afterlife, dance of eternity, the killing hand
neal morse- author of confusion
alot of music is emotive to me. Its my talent and passion, any truely good music is beautiful

I get these quite often, but not always. Some songs in recent history that have done it:
Dige For November - Opeth (very strongly, in fact)
Colonizing The Sun - Theory In Practice
Lone Jack - Pat Metheny
Tea For Two - Tal Furlow
Geodesic Dome - Wormed
Thus Spake The Nightspirit - Emperor
Sarcophagous - Nile
Black Seeds Of Vengeance - Nile
Dogma Condemned - Hate Eternal (The fucking solo - Oh my)
every Cynic song.
Bout all I can think of for now.

I haven't heard anything amazing for a while, but the last last song that gave me the "wow" feeling was Kuroyume - For Dear.

Some that I can think of right now are
"As the Palaces Burn" (title track)- Lamb of God
"Nephilim Rising"- Behemoth
"Black Winter Night"- Dragonforce
"Suicide Nation"- At the Gates
"Poison God Machine"- Nevermore
"Wingthor's Hammer"- Equilibrium
"Windar's Hallen"- Equilibrium (that female vocal part at the end is verrrrry chilling in a peaceful sorta way)
"Devour"- VILE
"Altered Genesis/Smite/Arterial Lust"- Blood Red Throne
"One by one/ In My Kingdom Cold/ Beyond the North Waves/Solarfall/Where Dark and Light Don't Differ"- Immortal
There are quite a few others I cannot think of right now but that is a pretty good list if I do say myself.

Falkenbach - Vanadis
Forest Stream - Legend
Grateful Dead - Dark Star
Nasum - Relics
Saturnus - Noir
ISIS - Wills Disolve
there are so many...

Well, I sometimes well up whenever I listen to the last two movements of this one song called "Grant Them Eternal Rest" by Andrew Boysen, Jr.
I need to invest in more concert music.

I'll somewhat agree with you. For any other band, it would have been ok, but that song is what makes me believe that Opeth has been overrun by the Roadrunner Producers who make every band under that label sound the same.

What other band on roadurunner sounds remotely like Opeth does? They are still making long ass songs with acoustic interludes just like they have always done. I don't really see what the big difference is.

I hate that song..... But yall should look into Dvorjak; he wrote the 9th (New World) symphony, and the intro and largo movements are breathtaking.

In Flames - Everlost, Part 1 and 2
Candlemass - Spellbreaker
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked
Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery, ...Of Melancholy Burning, The Mind's Eye, Shadow Duet, A Bolt of Blazing Gold, Through Ebony Archways.
All those DT songs with chick singers are beautifal.

I'm not talking about the way their songs are arranged. I'm talking about how it's produced. Like with Cradle of Filth. They turned from that raw distorted guitar sound to that more smoother distorted sound in Damnation and a Day.
I may only have two Opeth Cds (Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries) but they sound completely different.

There has been so many threads like this one.
Goodbye To Romance - Ozzy, it's a beautiful song.
Dee - Randy Rhoads
Blodhevn - Asmegin(mainly the violin at the start)
What a wonderful world - Louis Armstrong
And some Tupac songs, just because I used to listen to a lot of that shit with my old friend.
Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath - BS
Probably a lot more that I can't remember, especially some Iron Maiden songs and Neil Young.

They (Opeth) sound like Dream Theater on some of those songs, who in turn sound like any number of original prog bands. If there's an ounce of originality or passion on Ghost Reveries, it's extremely well-hidden.
The songs that give me chill bumps or little sublime swoons aren't necessarily my favorites. Some sounds have a certain effect and others don't.
Pink Floyd - Dogs (harmony lead), Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pt. 1, Echoes
Ennio Morricone - Ecstasy in Gold, Harmonica's Theme, Days of Heaven soundtrack
Gustav Mahler - Symphony III, movement iv
Richard Wagner - Siegfried's Funeral March
Igor Stravinsky - Symphony of Psalms, Codas of Eternal Stillness
Georges Delerue - Theme de Camille
Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings
Mr. Bungle - Merry Go Bye Bye, Air-Conditioned Nightmare, Goodbye Sober Day
King Crimson - Larks' Tongues in Aspic pt. 2, The Power to Believe II and III, The Sheltering Sky, Trio
Pantera - Floods
Miles Davis - Yesternow
Isis - Altered Course, Grinning Mouth
Tool - Aenema
That's enough. I don't really think that this is the same as an 'eargasm,' as for a thread with that title I'd have some different songs (some the same).

Oh, and I need to add Joe Hisaishi's score for Spirited Away. Great (trippy) movie and AMAZING score.

I get those "chill bumps" a lot. There are too many things to list individually, but the bands/artists that I find to give them the most (off the top of my head): Bjork, Tool, Emperor, Bungle (a lot of Patton work in general), Radiohead, Death, Disillusion, Pig Destroyer, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, Alice in Chains, Pantera, Cephalic Carnage, Mastodon, Kaki King, Isis, Kayo Dot, Down, Converge..

that song is ridiculous. read the lyrics:
Dark are these halls
and the air that the prisoners breathe tastes so putrid...
So malevolent that it would make even the most immune
feel very nauseous from the very first gasp of air...
Such is the sickening Hail of this pit...
Known to someone as Hell...
Halls of Torture, Eternal Lair of Stillness
where moments of torture feel as mercy itself
Perpetual Monotony
"vomit...flesh...blood...murder...bodies...
ruler...tyrant...obey him"
Fixed Helpless onto these rotting walls
the doomed await the coming torment...
Inhaling the upsetting scent of corpses
and the repulsing smell of sulphur
arising from the pits below their very feet...
Vomiting their lungs out
hoping to die
but they wont...
The master enters his torture chamber
his minions wait for his commands
helpless prisoners moan of fear
everyone the master considered to be tortured,
were tortured, some of them died, some didn't
one day he?ll come back again to torment the
ones he doesn't appreciate
Torture Jew:
Burn swastikas onto his skin 1000 and 1 times with
this burning hot marking iron
-So I shall burn swastikas onto his skin 1000 and 1
times with this burning hot marking iron
Torture priest:
Boil him in 1000-degree hot excrement
-I shall boil him in 1000-degree hot excrement
Penetrate his virgin ass with satan-shaped phallus
-I shall penetrate his virgin ass with S-S phallus
Torture Jehovah:
Tear down his kingdom and destroy his minions
-I shall tear down his kingdom and destroy his minions
Convert his followers or kill them if they resist
-I shall convert his followers or kill them if they resist
Torture Martin Luther:
Destroy his life work and rip all his skin slowly
-I shall destroy his life work and rip all his skin slowly
Beat him and impose thoughts of an anti-christian world on him
-I shall beat him and impose thoughts of an anti-christian world on him
Torture Allah:
Burn down Mecca and feed him all muslims
-I shall burn down Mecca and feed him all muslims
Torture Hindu:
Stick your hand into his anus and pull out his
guts, then feed him with the holy cow
-I shall stick my hand into his anus and pull out
his guts, then feed him with the holy cow
Torture Martin Luther King:
Break His Bones
-I shall Break his bones
Cut off his penis
-I shall cut off his penis
Cut off his tongue
-I shall cut off his tongue
Burn "White Power" onto his forehead
-I shall burn "White Power" onto his forehead
Torture Lars Levi Lestadius:
Incinerate his offspring
-I shall...
Grind his bones while he still breathes and feed
them to Saint Paul
-I shall...
Torture Saint Paul:
Make him blind again and feed him his eyes
-I shall...
Torture all:
Vomit on everyone, Crush everyone's bones
Rape everyone, Burn everyone
post-mortem for everyone
-I shall.....
everyone left alive still wait for the next time.
the waiting is even more horrid than the torture
itself.

You all missed the point. IT's not about the lyrics. It's about what the song sounds like. The lyrics fit. The song actually sounds like you are traveling through hell. With noises and moans and ambient style sounds.Since the song is 30 minutes long it's like it's droning on forever. They are using "Heros" through history telling the contradiction that bad people go too hell. If Satan is bad why is he hurting bad people. Like I said this is about what songs sound like not what the lyrics are.

I haven't heard a lot of that stuff, but judging by the fact that you like Radiohead, Pantera, Bjork, Alice in CHains, Kaki King, and Tool, I think it'd be worth me checking out the rest. Nice choices.
If someone here hasn't heard Kaki she has a website. Pretty awesome way of playing guitar, it's like that one Justin King song.
La Ritournelle, by Sebastien Tellier gives me those chills too. It's french soft-electronica with singing. Good stuff.

Well I've also been listening to Mastodon's new CD, and it's really crazy. I don't know if I'd consider it adding chills though. It's some of the most fun I've had listening to metal.
The Donnie Darko soundtrack, however, does just that.
And in Hotel California when the lyrics come up: "You can check out anytime you want, but you can never leave" I mean, that freaks me out.

yeah same here.. that feeling has driven my life, but lately it's much harder to find. i remember being like maybe 15 and listening to the solo trade-off in Carcass's "death certificate" and thinking it was the most moving thing EVER. otherwise, more recently, radiohead's kid a and amnesiac discs were quite moving.. painfully so, even. the main feeling i get now is loading up my mp3 player with songs that psyche me up (Decapitated's "the fury" for example) and going running.. gives me good adrenaline.

|
Even if that is the point, those lyrics are still fucking retarded.

That's for sure. If you're in the right mood that song can give you insane chills. Anybody else here heard "Windows to the Soul"?
Stevie Ray Vaugns instrumental cover of Little Wing is great, too. It helps that Jimi wrote such a great song.
Con Te Partiro- I've only heard the Andrea Bocelli version. This song can get you really into it, and even more so Caruso(I listed it earlier).
And one of the Best Trilogies Ever(Because I don't know too many): on EXTREME III, "Rise n' Shine" "Am I Ever Gonna Change" and "Who Cares". It all comes together at the end, and then stops abruptly to go back to the wind up music box that it started with.
Anybody else like Extreme, even though they have to dorkiest name ever?

This thread is not about the lyrics. It's about the atmosphere of the song that gives you "chill bumps". Yeah the lyrics are silly but that's not what we are discussing are we?

The end of the album Be by Pain of Salvation has scared the absolute shit out of me many a time. Mainly since I like to listen to the penultimate track on loud and forget that the album is on, and after three minutes of silence comes a fucking terrifying noise.
Most Opeth songs have parts that give me shivers, aswell as Porcupine Tree. To Dream of Ur with the solo and screaming at once gets me up too. Errors of my Ways by Wishbone has to be the ultimate shiver song though.

The only time an album has remotley scared me is when I was comgin back home on a long road trip with my dad and my brother. I had "Amongst the Catacombs of Nephran-Ka" on my CD player. After the second track my bloodsugar started to go realy low and I started to feel like I was a mummy getting thrown into some very loud, hellish, de-tuned void. When I woke up we were at Burger King.

Songs that give you chill bumps
Not metal obviously, but one song I can say that has given me that feeling is The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot.
Off the top of my head some Destroyer 666 songs have that creepyness to them, such as the intro in Burning the Veil of Falsehood for example.. there are better ones though, that's just what I thought of.

The only song that ever gave me 'bumps' is Cemetery Gates by Pantera. Especially after Dime's death.

Wow, that is scary.
As for me, it is when I get that feeling of strange supernatural forces around me, I know it is a band worth my listening. One of my examples shall be Limbonic Art- A Demonoid Virtue. The beginning and end with that scream/howling was fuckin cool. Also, stuff from Moon in the Scorpio was a bit eerie. It's the keyboards!
Most other stuff besides black metal doesn't get me into that kind of feeling. It's not a scared feeling, just a wierd manifestation that gets me into this spaced out mood.
