Pre and Post EQ

So I heard about using this trick to fine tune your distortion from amptone.com and was wondering if anyone here does this as well. What you do is stick a good EQ pedal in front of your amp and one in your effects loop, effectively putting it after your distortion and using these to sculpt it. Anyone out there have any experience with this?

Oh yeah, I do this all the time with great results. I have so many EQ options that I sold my Vintage Boss EQ-7. It was just overkill. The only bitch is having so much EQ, I tweek and tweek and tweek until I'm nearly insane with perfect tone. I just can't leave "good-enough" alone. Eventually I just leave shit set and play.

Good thing is I can save EQ setting in different patches on the GT-8 and I write down analog settings for other units.

Proper EQ is everything to me.

I agree, proper EQ is so important.

Having two EQ's is a little excessive. Just one in the FX loop is all I need, especially for small gain boosts in a solo or sometimes just simply for getting a tighter sound.

I have to use an EQ in the loop when I use my EMG equipped guitar because the treble is too harsh, then if I cut it with my amp's eq, I end up cutting too much off.

I think I might pick up a Y-cable and hook my 31 band eq in the preamp in/poweramp out (which is the effects loop, but needs a y cable), and the 15 just before my amp and after all my effects. This should help my sounds a lot. Thanks for the idea Valtiel.

EDIT: Ive decided I want the 31 band after the guitar to set up a really nice sound with just the guitar, 31 band and amp. Then the dist pedals, wah, into the 15 band to make minor eq adjustments and then the amp. The 15 band though, is dual channel and I was wondering if I could use one channel to eq the pedals themselves and then the other channel to go into the amp, having all of that come out of the speakers. Yay or nay, and suggestions how to do this? Thanks

What Im talking about above: Guitar - 31 band - 15 band ch 1 to pedals, then that to ch2- amp, if thatd work
