how to play the fast triplets of "Raining blood"??

I am trying to learn Raining blood by Slayer. I can play the main riff, but am trying to learn how to play those fast Low E string triplets in this segment:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------3-2-------
-------------------------------------------------------4-----3-2---
-000-000-000-000-000-000-000-000-000-000-000-0-2-4------------

1. How should i go about training myself to build up that kind of fast twitch in my hand muscles?
2. Just start playing triplets on the metronome with very slow speed, and build it up over time?
3. Should i play this segment all downstrokes, or alternate picking?

thanks

If you can play it in downstrokes...I would like to shake your hand than punch you.

They're not triplets - the 'gallop' rhythm does not equal a triplet. They're simply 16ths with every other fourth note missing. Just to let you know.

Exactly what philkilla said. PRACTICE man, thats how i learned to play it. Even though it may look like a twitch its more controlled movements of the wrist. The first time I tried to play that my arm cramped up alot since the muscles werent developed enough. But now I dont have much of a problem playing it. I'd really like to see someone play that with all downstrokes at the correct tempo. But I wont hold my breath.

thanks

thanks for the advice guys. Johnmansley-- your explanation helps a lot, because i am a former drummer, and am used to thinking in those terms. I'll just start out slow alternate picking by playing one-two-three-rest-one-two-three-rest, etc etc.

also, to come back to ''real'' triplets, make each triplet you play like a explosion of your picking hand, that way they sound realy tight imo,

When you make the downstroke you should already want to make the upstroke

just try bursts of alternate picking. When you playing it think about "bursting" it will help accentuate the technique (i think)

If you can play that song cleanly then try "Spheres of Madness" by Decapitated. That's a good workout for controlling start-stop triplet/gallop/whatever picking.

Listen to some Iced Earth, and listen to his galloping in Angels Holocaust. It wont help you... it will make you hate yourself for not being able to do it... but with like a few months to a year of practice you can do it!

Technically you will be hitting a downstroke, upstroke and then downstroke but don't think of it like that....Instead think of it as one fluid motion. If your arm is moving then you'll risk injury and you'll get real tired real fast so work on using your fingers and a little bit of wrist. Remember to always pick the width of the string and no more or else you will lose speed.

Practice before you go to bed until your fingers start to hurt and then masturbate like theres no tomorrow
