I will begin jamming with a drummer sometime soon, so naturally I won't be able to take my half stack with me all the time(first of all I don't have a car, 2nd: my cab doesn't fit in his.
). I've been thinking of buying a small but loud SS 1x12 or 2x12 combo amp strictly for rehearsal, so I'm not buying something expensive like a Peavey XXL or something, but something cheaper.
There's not a great selection of amps available here in the Canary islands, and stuff is much more expensive here, plus importing a combo amp from outside would cost just as much as I'd be raped by customs/taxes.
So I've been thinking, should I get an Engl 1x12(60W 16 Ohm) for 366€ to use with my Engl Fireball head for rehearsing? Or should I just get plain old cheap combo? Here's the cab: http://www.musik-produktiv.de/shop2/shop04.asp/artnr/3233043/sid/!06082002/quelle/listen
I don't mind if the combo has shit distortion as I have an old Digitech RP1 that works fine(tone is not pristine but it's better than most cheap amps' sound). The combos available to me are Kustoms, Roland Cubes, some Crate amps, some Peaveys, Behringers, and Tech21's(these rule I used to have one but are WAY too expensive over here for just a practice amp).
Would the 60w 1x12 Engl Cab be enough to handle my Engl Fireball's load(60w)? Or would it blow the speaker? I've seen some guitarist from Running Wild in a clinic playing his Engl Savage into a 1x12 Engl box so I don't think there should be a problem if I don't dime the volume right?
So what would you pick? I'm thinking of the 1x12 cab though it's a little expensive, and would be 1 extra thing to carry(I could just leave my 1x12 at his house though). As far as combo amps go, they must sufficient for playing with a drummer, but cost significantly less than the 1x12 cab(because I'd rather pay the same amount to use my tube head than a plain ol combo amp :P).
