Cab to go with Mesa Boogie Triple Recto head
Alright so my gear at present is:
Ibanez RG-550
3 channel 150 watt Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier
I need a cab... I've been looking at the following so far (all of these have gotten great reviews):
Standard Mesa Boogie 4x12 Recto
Orange 4x12
Bogner 4x12
Vader 4x12
Engl 4x12
Can someone who's tested at least several of these with a triple recto head try to describe the differences in tone (as best they can)?
I'll be playing mostly death metal, black metal, and atmospheric stuff (like Isis for example, but different). When it comes to clean, I like my clean sort of 'icy' if that makes sense. It's also important that the cab can handle low-tunings as well as normal ones (I play quite a bit of c-tuned metal).

I haven't tried those cabs at all.
But from what I've read and heard from a couple of Studio engineers I know, you might want to go for the Mesa or Engl cabs.

um... arent they all the same in regards to speaker types? I know that orange cabs are built to last a lifetime and are made so you can get the closest to a pure tone... with no colouration from the cab. I've heard that engl cabs arent voiced that well... so i'd avoid them. And marshall cabs... the ones with greenback speakers colour the sound a bit, and marshall cabs overall are a bit less punchy than oranges (in my experience).

Well most all those cabs are loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's. The Bogner Ubercab is a pretty rippin cab for metal with its combo of V30's and GT75's but isnt the best for cleans. I would honestly try to find a Mesa Standard 4x12, the smaller one not the oversized one.

the cabs you listed should all make for a great combo with the recto. though i don't have much experience with the vader other than from a listeners perspective.
im a big fan of rectos through g12t-75s. so a marshall 1960 cab would be a good choice imo.

i thought they use mesa. i saw some triple or dual rectos in their death walking terror video.
btw, my original comment was based upon the equipment page of their website, so if im wrong...its their fault
and plus im new to all this gear stuff...and cannibal corpse, i've only really started to like them, i thought they were a bit 'meh', but now i totally dig them.

I run my triple rec into a crate BV412 SVB (higher end crate cab mind you). I also modded it with soulinsanes advice from an earlier thread (speaker cab modification I believe) heres a blog from myspace where I documented it:
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?f...c9-f86cfb268bc4
Also, any of those cabs should handle C quite well....that isn't all that low.
I play my friends baritone guitar through mine and its tuned to F...and it handles it QUITE well.
EDIT: Also, cannibal used to use marshall cabs and crate cabs. Now they (Pat and Rob) are using Mesa cabs.
One last note: If you have the money (IF) you should look into a Rivera LosLobottom 2x12 also.

Well, this is what I suggest:
Ibanez RG-550 --> Triple recto --> Roland microcube.
This way you can handle the extra low end.

The bass is more pronounced and punchy. I put DR's on my Ran and now it really feels like someone is punching you in the chest when I play. Also everything just sounds a lot tighter.

MESA REC
VADER those are great cabs depending on ur style they can pretty much take 120-150 watts before they start muddying up thats my suggestion also a cab with g12t-75 will be good
