I consider this "Metal" With just an industrial touch. Yeah its no Cannibal Corpse its still metal. I was just wondering where they get all of those sounds.

What difference does it make? The gear forum doesn't say anything about ONLY metal conversations. Infact there are a SHIT ton of non-metal discussions all the time. So.. i think that really doesn't apply.

i dont see you helpfully suggesting any industrial bands
i kind of misread what was being asked since it struck me as being vague. what makes the "industrial" sounds? samples sometimes done digitally, keyboards, etc.
i'm not sure if you've heard it, but strapping young lad's - city album has little industrial tidbits hidden ALL over it, its the best example i can think of. perfectly executed

When it comes to creating those 'industrial' sounds, pre-made samples are the way to go. Also, I enjoy making my own samples and editing them to create the soundscapes I want, the same goes with taking premade samples you buy on CDs. I had to do this in my old band simply because the sounds on alot of premade sample CDs just weren't sick enough for me.
Keyboards can also make some sick shit. The Yamaha DX7, which came out in 1983, is awesome for creating some sick industrial sounds and patterns on it. Good audio editing/sequencing software can offer a multitude of tools for you to screw around with sound, i.e. filters and such. You can even do alot of stuff with Fruity Loops if you know your shit on it. It's all about creativity, one reason I love this genre, there are no rules.
As for actual music, listen to Das Ich, Killing Joke [their 90's stuff] Converter ['Blast Furnace' is fucking great] and Terrorfakt for some awesome industrial music. The more you go back in time with industrial, the cheesier and weirder it is, i.e. Throbbing Gristle, the 'fathers' of industrial music. Stay away from the entire EBM scene - it's garbage.
EDIT : If you're like me into the whole hardcore/speedcore techno thing, you have to check out Industrial Strength Vol. 4 'Chillin Is Killin.' It's a compliation of various hardcore/speedcore artists, and the first CD is kinda laid back but the second CD is one of my favorite discs ever, it's industrialized techno, it's brutal, with alot of awesome guitars as well. Very inspirational to me, and a must if you dig stuff like the Berzerker [who used to do this kind of stuff for the Industrial Strength label before he put the band together.] Killer songs, killer ideas, killer sounds.

Agreed. Someone gave me a computer (yeah, a freebee) with FL on it and I love that program. There is a lot to it, but if you just screw around with it for a little bit you can come up with some cool stuff. Lots of fun. Speaking of which I think I want to go play with it, as I haven't done so in awhile. I'm pretty new to making music and even I can make something that sounds halfway decent with Fruity Loops. That should motivate you.
Also, I think as far as Industrial groups go, I really like Front Line Assembly. I got into them after they remixed Fear Factory's stuff about a million years ago. They have some really good dark, heavy stuff. Their early stuff sounds like crap in my opinon, but what can you do?
Electronic music has a lot of potential. I really like the way it sounds when mixed with heavy guitar (FF's Fear Is The Mindkiller) and it can lend a lot of atmosphere to music. That's the direction I want to go in anyway.

as for making industrial sounds, fruity loops is useful.. you can definitely do kool shit by time-stretching cymbals and other normal existing samples. reverb effects help too. a lot of the artists (in powernoise, ambient, and all the more artistic, abstract stuff) just get out there and record samples in the environment. you could probably grab stuff off of film or tv, too.

hell yeah.. 'Shock Front' is a great disc too.. i got the one with the sheet metal insert (instead of a booklet) inside the jewel case. i saw Converter live, too. probably the best high-quality powernoise.

i have to disagree with you on that one
if you like the powerful, militant industrial sound, check out Feindflug or Siectum. for the more hardcore tech-break type stuff, Panacea's 'Twisted Designs' ..as for great metal with industrial elements: GODFLESH, Misery Loves Co. (self-titled disc only), the first few Pitch Shifter discs (stay away from the later!), Ministry, Acumen Nation (new album anti-core: http://myspace.com/acumennation ), the list goes on...

Red Harvest is another good industrial-metal bands. Some songs are better than others.
And GODFLESH is the greatest. Justin Broadrick's new band Jesu is ok too. Though a bit too emo sounding for my taste. I wish he'd stop trying to convince us he can sing and just stick to growling with effects on his voice or just plain shouting.

That's the program I've been using for the techno shit I've been making lately. Anyway... Godflesh, Aphex Twin those bands are awesome for example. And as far as random noises most people just steal shit and slow it down or speed it up or loop it, there's all kinds of crap you can do. I took part of the Dark city soundtrack and threw it in some of the last techno song I did, it came out pretty good I think.
