Testament
I've got 2 of their albums on MP3 and i really like The Gathering. The other album i have is Practice What You Preach, and i don't like it as much. It's still pretty good though.
I want to know if anyone likes Testament and how they feel about the certain albums i've mentionned or any others.

I pretty much love all of the Testament stuff.
The Gathering is killer but I wish James added more leads to the songs.
My favorite Testament record would be the second one. The New Order.
Anyone heard the new version of Into The Pit? It's pretty damn good!

isnt Dave Lombardo in Testament now?
I heard he did an album with them, and I heard it,he must of got double bass lessons or something, because no he doesnt suck so bad at it,like in Slayers Reign in Blood, etc.

I think Lombardo did a good enough job with Slayer......especially on Seasons in the Abyss! (great cd!)
But i don't know about the him being in Testament....mainly cause i know nothing of Testament.

Indeed, Dave Lombardo worked with Testament on The Gathering. He is badass on that CD along with on all the Slayer CD's he did.
Oh, the best Testament CD is The Ritual.

i love Slayer but,Dave Lombardo had boring beats, like Snare, bass, snare, bass, snare bass beats through every song. And he barely used double bass.
But still Reign in Blood is the best album I think.

I think the 2 best songs off of The Gathering are:
- Sewn Shut Eyes
- 3 Days in Darkness
Those songs kick ass!! I love the main riff from "Sewn...".

MY FRIEND BOUGHT "THE VERY BEST OF TESTAMENT" IN THE BOOKLET THERE IS THE BAND HISTORY WITH EACH DRUMMER THEY HAD. I DONT KNOW THEM AT ALL I'VE ONLY HEARD SOME OF THEIR SONG. I'VE READ THAT PAUL BOSTAPH AS BEEN IN THE BAND JUST LIKE LOMBARDO (THINK ITS THEIR ACTUAL DRUMMER "LOMBARDO").
JOHN DETTE AS BEEN THEIR DRUMMER TOO (WICH WAS SLAYER
DRUMMER FOR A SHORT TIME...THINK HE DID SOME TRACK ON UNDISPUTED ATTITUDE)... EVEN JOHN TEMPESTA (WHITE ZOMBIE AND ROB ZOMBIE) PLAYED WITH THEM...
THATS ALL I KNOW ABOUT TESTAMENT

Lombardo is a bit overrated.
He IS an excellent drummer with good speed and technique but there are MANY drummers who are as good or even better.
Bostaph can do anything Lombardo does and more. Bostaph adds to the songs and rarely just backs up the rythm ,he's more creative than Lombardo.
People think they act "old-school" and enhance their "street-credibility" by saying Lombardo was Slayer's best drummer because he drummed on the '80 s records.
If you know so much about thrash and '80 s metal you would know that Bostaph originally was Forbidden's drummer and that Forbidden produced two of the best thrash records ever ("Forbidden Evil" and "Twisted into Form").
I also agree on 6MORBIDANGEL6 opinion on Lombardo's footwork. Allthough I must add that in those days the bassdrums weren't so loud in the mix as now. Good footwork can be heard on Hell Awaits and South of Heaven (the records).
There is some on Reign In Blood (the famous Angel of Death end section and in Raining Blood) but I feel that if Lombardo or Bostaph would re-do that record they would take it to a whole new level.
Listening to more recent records from Lombardo like Grip Inc records or the Testament record you can hear that he worked a lot on his footwork the last few years.
Testament's drummer nowadays is Jon Allen. He's also plays along with Steve Digorgio in Sadus. He's not bad but you can hear that it's not quite the same league as Lombardo and Bostaph.

WTF, Practice What You Preach? Is that an early napalm influence?

I've always been kind of an in and out Testament fan, I only owned a few records. Took me a long time to really get into 'em though, years ago I always wrote 'em off as an 80s thrash facsimile of all the other greats, like they had nothing original to offer. But, I was wrong and Testament rules ass.
I picked up First Strike Still Deadly a few months back, and holy fucking christ they really beefed all their old shit up. Even though its not a REAL Testament record in the sense that its only re-recorded old songs, I could go as far as to call that a fucking flawless album. Fucking excellent, flawless thrash album.
one last thing....I know this is an old thread but I still gotta say Disciple's view on Lombardo is spot on. I've always felt that way, even with all the wannabe Slayer purists that claim Lombardo as a drum god get in my face with that shit.

when i first heard them i threw them into the 'metallica clone' bin. recently i started listening to a few tracks of theirs i had, and it turns out i just had the 'wrong tracks' (shit like Allegiance...maybe it was just the guys voice, because now that i listen to it the bass and drums are fucking insane).
wat album is Legions of the Dead off? i'm considering picking it up.

I think the Metallica clone thing originally stemmed from Chuck Billy sounding similar to James Hetfield. He doesn't sound much like James anymore really, at least not to me. He's got a good vocal bark to him.

The only 2 albums i've listened to since i started this thread are Practice What You Preach and The Gathering.....and i only like The Gathering.
It feels faster, harder....they're timing seems really good. A good kick ass album.
I also agree about the Lombrado bit......don't know why i never replied to it before. He is a great drummer for the style he played.....but Bostaph was just in a complete other class and a better one at that. Lombardo had a good 80's thrash feel for a drummer, which went perfect with Slayer at the time.....but when they started changing a bit and got Bostaph, he was the perfect man for the job. Plus he can do all the old stuff without a sweat too!

I have the Ritual and some live CD (I think) but I've never gotten past the third track in the Ritual, and don't even think the other one's opened. My brother gave them to me, if you're wondering why I have them at all.
I love adding nothing to conversations

yeah, bobpurgis you're just full of useful info.
hey powers, Testament aren't really death metal, if thats what you meant by DM. Although on the newer stuff Chuck growls a little more and its heavier, its still just good 'ol thrash.

My favourite album is Low, its so fucking excellnt. Listen to the song Legions or the title track and youll see how awesome it is. About the drummers, im pretty sure that Testament has had all 3 drummers that have benn in Slayer. Dave Lombardo, Paul Bostaph and John Dette (who was with Slayer for a short while in 94-95 i think).

True, but any talk is better than that blasphemed other "metal" that's so popular around here.
Dette was just around for a tour was he not? He's not on any albums i don't think...or listed in them at least.

Ah well whatever. (trying to keep non-garbage metal threads alive)
I've seen both Bostaph and Lombardo and i must say Bostaph has a better sound......but Lombardo is VERY good with old school Slayer.

It doesn't have shit to do with Testament, but who drummed for Slayer during the Extreme Steel Tour 2001?

Um, ok...
It doesnt' really matter if no one knows, I don't even remember if the guy was good or not, because I liked Slayer even less then than I do now, so I didn't pay much attention to him, but I always like the extra knowledge.

It was Bostaph.
From Testament the three first albums are must-haves and the others are very good too, especially First Strike Still Deadly which is on the mp3 thing.

Im pretty sure it was Bostaph.
I've got a few videos of Slayer with lombardo back again. The new songs off God Hates Us All sound really weak with Lombardo back on drums, quite dissapointing in fact

TESTAMENT
DAVW LOMBARDO WAS NOT IN TESTAMENT, I DON'T THINK, HOWEVER, WHEN HE LEFT SLAYER AFTER SEASONS, PAUL BOSTAPH REPLACE HIM, PAUL BOSTAPH WAS IN TESTAMENT. MY FAVORITE TESTAMENT ALBUM WOULD HAVE TO BE THE NEW ORDER OR THE LEGACY, THEY ARE TRULY ONE OF THE BEST THRASH BANDS EVER.
WHOEVER READS THIS, CHECK OUT DEATH ANGEL, THEY ARE A THRASH METAL BAND THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT AS BIG AS TESTAMENT, BUT THEY ROCK!!!
TESTAMENT IS AWESOME!
