First, this is not a thread to list or talk about bands that have women in them. This is a discussion about metal and if women can truly find their place amonst the men in this genre. I have used the search engine, and only came up with topics concerning females of specific instruments. I want this to be about all metal females in general, even women who aren't even in a band but just go to concerts and who get in mosh pits and tear it up.

I personally see nothing wrong with women in metal. The way I see it is if you have the energy and dedication to metal, it doesn't matter what sex you are. I definitely don't think there should be any double standard that says women have to maintain a more strict level of modesty than men, and that includes what music they engage themselves in.

I'll probably have more to say when I see what everyone else has to say, and vice versa for you guys too.

girls into metal or any other alternative (not DMB) music /life style are usualy beastly and not attractive at all to me. the babes are always the normal girls, and im fine with that. i wouldnt expect a girl to like metal, as long as they tolerate it in my car

the only girls ive ever seen at metal gigs are with their boyfriend and look bored. one time i saw this chick at a skinless concert jumping up and down to the beat, that was REALLY fucking agitating

the reason I picked metal is because I now and then hear people riticuling girls who play in metal. It's like with back in the days of the depression girls who would go into bars and listen to jazz and the ones who did were kind of seen as hussies by those who didn't adjust to the times well.

If girls can't get into metal at all, aside from a select few, it probably means that the sexual element to it is neutral or dead. If that's the case, expect a lot of these people here to grow away from it.

I'll reword it: all music is at least somewhat sexual. That's where it comes from. If most metal excludes (as an essential fact) females, don't expect it to last beyond our lifetimes.

There are far more females in metal now than there ever was a few years back! Years ago women only appeared in metal to be draped over Lemmy in photo shoots. Very few female bands were around apart from Warlock, Girlschool and Rock Goddess, that now has changed. More women are forming bands and playing instruments. Lets have more of it that's what I say! Hell there's even a female Iron Maiden tribute band and an all girl Hellhammer tribute act!

According to Sonja from Fermento it's possible. All she does all day is study Flo Monier and Eric Park. Her blasts are insane. Also Anna from Haemorrhage. She can grind and thrash along with the guys in the band just as well as any guy.

Hmm well it's odd I see tons of metal girls at shows but non around where I live eccept like two. Generally most are posers who like Metal because their boyfriends do. Like I know one girl who wears Devourment shirts and has Cannibal Corpse patches ect. So I was talking to her and asked if she liked any Morbid Angel and she's like "Who are they?" I was like "GAH!"

However there are a select few that actually like metal because they like metal. But most of those live in other contries.

I don't see anyting wrong with females in metal. In fact I always wanted to be in a female vocalist fronted goregrind/grindcore band.

all types of music attract a certain personality type, and metal is favoured by personalities more likely to be inside male bodies.

heavy metal is and probably always will be male dominated, because of what it is, and what it represents. just like designing clothes and haircuts will always be dominated by homosexuals and women.

i have met girls who listen to red chord, btbam, and cephalic carnagexand hey even i am not always in the mood to listen to really heavy stuff, but one girl i know listens to just black metal and is really into death metal as well. Girls are just as metal as guys, it just depends on how serious you take it. I have met many guys who say they are into metal and are just posers, and most of the girls ive met that are into it are serious metalheads!!!!

You got a point though, ha. Think about a random death metal band. Cannibal corpse for example. (this has nothing to do with music, and all with image) They are very manly men. Big men, scary looking men, men who look like they fuck to death whatever happens to run slower than they do. Now, while they are loooking all tough and manly on stage, 90% of their audience at any given show is probably male, who go crazy when they see their big manly heroes on stage.... and I wouldn't have it any other way

Now look at an emo band. Little fucking nerds. Little men who seem liek they get a broken leg everytime a slgith breeze blows. Men who think pink is cool, and pink + black is cooler. Yet... more than half of their audience at any given show is female......

I have to say the only metal women that I know of are the ones from Drain STH ( all women ) and Dana Duffey from Mythic ( all women ) and Demonic Christ. If you think they are trying to hard to be metal just remember that they have been making metal music longer than most members here have been alive and they are still very attractive. I don't think they do it for money, but because they really love metal music.

I heard somewhere that females have never got much attention in metal music because a larger fan base of young males appeal more to the pseudo-homosexual under tones of acceptance, exclusiveness, and comfort that their own sex have had in common during youth when girls, their differences, and the rejection that can be involved with them were still scary things. The feelings that older, more powerful, greater skilled males project helps to infuse confidence in younger males during this period of becoming a man. This would suggest that males need more encouraging during young adulthood than females imo. I'm not sure if all this is true but I have noticed that lots of young males only like the image that metal music can sometimes give them but never actually like the music beyond just that. They eventually grow out of listening to metal music once they become sure of themselves. Others ( including females ) seem to be hooked for life on the music even though they may grow out of the image.
