Those "MIDI guitars..."

are they actually worth buying? or worth checking out? i've heard of them but haven't seen one yet, and im wondering how well they actually pick up all the expressiveness of the guitar strumming and if they are actually better than, or just as good as, a MIDI keyboard when it comes to emulating other stringed instruments (such as violins). has anyone here tried one and wanna talk about it?

As much as I love digital technology a midi guitar is going to far.

it seems pretty much like the roland synth pickup idea really.

i played one of those brian moore guitars loaded with a roland synth pickup thing and goofed with it. sounded great and was alot of fun, so it's worth checking out if you're into that stuff. maybe when i'm rich enough to blow money on stuff that i'd hardly ever use.

i saw some ad short clip thing for a midi guitar with hype about how you could have some strings clean and the others distorted and whatnot. when the fuck would you really use that? haha, maybe if you were really into touch guitar style.

it would make it easier to plug directly into a mixer or a computer... i guess it could be cool live, but i could only see practical use for it in a studio.

Well, I had seen these around but didn't exactly know what they were.

Sounds meh. It could be a pretty cool thing for most musicians especially those interested in electronic music or electronic/metal hybrids or whatever but I don't see how it would be particularly beneficial for most of us.

However, Im sure you could be way more creative if you want to. It could be good for a one guitar band too, for instance, with the 1/2 distortion 1/2 clean thing, distorted notes under clean melody. Could be very nice.

If you've got the money to blow, go for it.

I've seen MIDI pickups and shit like that, maybe that would be a better investment?

the seperating strings thing you guys are talkin about is digital guitars. thats a different thing. the MIDI pickups were what i was talking about, i think. i thought it would be cool to use cause you can make your guitar sound like a violin or a string section and it would work better than if you did it on a MIDI keyboard.

Check out Allan Holdsworth if you want to know what a midi equipped guitar can sound like.

I think they're pretty awesome, and I would definitely consider getting one.

there are midi guitars and synth pickups you can put on guitars and use them with midi/synth setups. the synth pickups for example, you can make your guitar sound like a saxaphone, piano, violin, ect... using the roland synth station thing like the gr-20.

not so sure about the midi guitars being able to do that though.
