Members of the band NEGATIVA, who have just left the Studio after a short recording session, have opened up a
myspace (no music yet, but they will keep you posted when the time comes). Add them, and prepare yourself for the most unique, consuming, and awe-inspiring metal of '06/'07.

NEGATIVA Recorded three tracks while in the studio, which are to appear on a mini-CD to shop for labels. "Songtitles set to appear on the mini-CD are 'Chaos in Motion,' 'Taedium Vitae,' and 'Rebellion.'"

PART 1: Steeve Hurdle
For those of you who don't know, NEGATIVA is a metal band consisting of Luc Lemay [GORGUTS] on guitars/vocals, Steeve Hurdle [GORGUTS, PURULENCE] on guitars/vocals, Miguel Valade [ION DISSONANCE] on bass, and Etienne Gallo [AUGURY] on drums. Me!...it occured in 1994...at first the band was called THY CEREMONY...but in 1997 I changed for NEGATIVA..
I've had this idea for a long time man!

I see. How did Luc and Etienne come into the picture?

When Luc disbanded GORGUTS I asked him if he would like to join me ...and he instantly said yes!!!..later on...Étienne heard that we were looking for a drummer, so he wrote to me and offered his service.....we got in contact together by his bass player (the first bassplayer NEGATIVA had)

NEGATIVA was his third band, and that was too much for him....AUGURY and ATHERETIC was already very busy...and he wrote music for both bands.....so he decided to concentrate more on his 2 bands...and left NEGATIVA....but introduced me to Miguel...so things are going ok!

I see. You said Negativa was once called Thy Ceremony; who were the members with the project during this time, and was any material recorded?

There was only me and Steve MacDonald (rip) we were both in GORGUTS at the time... we didnt record anything but some rehearsal.....that was totally a different thing than NEGATIVA is right now....it was more black metal oriented....very fast stuff! that was a two mans band!!!

hahaha. RIP Steve MacDonald. So has working with a musician like Luc Lemay changed the flow of Negativa's sound, or has the Obscura-esque insanity come naturally since the "two man's band"?

I had already written 5 songs for NEGATIVA which are gonna be on the demo...so jamming with Luc and Miguel just add special spices in it!...let me tell you that it will be very noisy stuff! with some catchy parts!!!

I decided to stop GORGUTS in Nov. 2004, coz I wanted to concentrate on my woodworking business....I'm a full time carver now....and back then I didnt have anything to say through music anymore.....and I was also sick of all the music bizz.
Ray says:
I understand; I saw the pictures of your works, very impressive man. Steeve has said that you two are close like brothers; is there any reason why he wasn't a part of FROM WISDOM TO HATE after the OBSCURA sessions?
Luc says:
The only reason is that Steeve had decided to leave GORGUTS in July 1999.
Ray says:
I see... I was talking to Etienne not too long ago, and we were toying around with an idea of a large Canadian Metal festival featuring bands such as CRYPTOPSY, MARTYR, NEURAXIS, AUGURY, NEGATIVA of course, and other greats... if all bands agreed to perform, do you think this could be possible?
Luc says:
Yes, why not!!!!!

hahaha, now all we need is a couple thousand dollars to get it rolling... is it good to be back in the music world? I hear that the new material is very intense, and it's even more enticing, now that you seem to be 'coming back from the dead'.
Luc says:
I'm having the best time I ever, ever had in a band!!!!!!

That's great to hear. Has writing been relatively easy for you, after "quitting" for a few years, or did you have any troubles?
Luc says:
It was quite uncomfortable in the begining......but I found my creativity, since I've 4 years without playing at all!!!!

Good good... a few more questions, I won't keep you... What do you have to say for NEGATIVA? Is there any advice, information, anything you want to share with the fans you've inspired over the years?
Luc says:
Be prepared....... OBSCURA was the sketching pad for NEGATIVA!!!!!!!! It's not for the faint of heart...... it's for bold, creative, extreme metalheads!!!!!!!!
"The last few weeks have been very thrilling for us as we have finally arranged to enter studio in mid-September to record three songs. We will again be working with our old friend Pierre Remillard, but this time it will be at his famous Wild Studio. Pierre produced Gorguts very first demo, '...And Then Comes Lividity', back in 1989, plus the albums 'Obscura' in 1998 and 'From Wisdom To Hate' in 2001. He will be assisted by none other than Jean-Yves Theriault, aka Blacky and former Voďvod; we are more than honored to work with him in the studio. At the end of September, expect a MySpace page for you to, at last, listen to our music. Songtitles set to appear on the mini-CD are "Chaos in Motion", "Taedium Vitae" and "Rebellion".
