Individual Thought Patterns inches oh so slightly ahead of Symbolic for me. It was a hard choice between those two though. I liked how mature they both sounded, but Individual... also has some experimentalism in it.

1.) Sound of Perserverance
It's hard to rate them because they are all great, but SoP just does it for me. Symbolic, Human, and Individual Thought Patterns follow in that order.

Spiritual Healing. I'm not into all their melodic/technical whatever you wanna call it bullshit. Spiritual Healing is the most brutal in my opinion.

The Sound of Perseverance has always been their most popular album, but IMO its also their weakest. Not to say it isnt brilliant, but I find much of the album to be overrated compared to other works like Human, ITP, or Symbolic

I was listening to Spiritual Healing last night and realized what a great album that is. Murphy's leads are classy and excellent, and the 'Defensive Personalites' chorus riffs are some of my favorite of all time.

Most people use 'of' instead of 'have' in situations like that. After years on the internet, I've found that it's only worth correcting the grammar of those you believe are capable of improving themselves and willing to do so. Lost causes are lost causes.
Low Life is fucking fantastic. Living Monstrosity is also great and has some of Chuck's funniest lyrics. It's obvious that a lot of what the 'Death' sound is was hammered out during that album. But they went on to do more.

This thread is proof of how amazing Death were. Such enthusiastic input. I only discovered Death recently, making my way through all the old school tech' death, but I can now say that I know what all the fuss was about.

SHES A STUPID BITCH
the vocal layering on that is out of control. all the people i know bash on bill andrew's drumming on SH but it is totally perfect for that album. reinert would have gone wayyyy over the top i bet

Funny you should say that, I was going to transcribe 'Killing Spree' because nobody's done it yet.

The thing I like about Death is that pretty much every album has a different feel and vibe too it. Therefore, its hard to chose my favorite since they are all different. But if I had to pick I'd chose TSOP or Leprosy. I voted for TSOP though. I love Death. RIP Chuck.

I think SH would have been much better if it didn't have Bill BADrews on drums... kicksnarekicksnare is only enticing for so long..
My personal favorite has got to be ITP, followed closely by Human. Symbolic is also great.

lol, no. I'm only asking for more variation in pattern; Bill Andrews sounds and played on that album like someone who's been playing for a few months. I think his performance held the album from reaching it's full potential. Not to be misconstrued that I'm asking for a jazz drummer, or some flashy sofa (gene hoglan) to blast at 4321 bpm, I just want some goddamned VARIATION.

he varied a lot between meat beats and many of other kinds of beats, his drumming is as catchy as the guitar parts on that album man

I really don't think so. like 75% of the album is him kicksnareing, and it gets old fast; his rolls aren't even good. The only time there is variation is when someone is doing a lead, or it's an intro riff. other than that, it's the same monotonous metronome pattern throughout the album.

If these people haven't heard of Death that doesn't mean they're underrated.

Can't be rated except by those that know you, and we can't expect most people to know a band whose last album came out years before their genre got even the slightest rays of mainstream light shed upon it.
Most of the people who have anything to say about Death one way or the other say good things; that's not being underrated.

Death's not underrated, it's rather not-well known. Those people who listen metal for its musical value (not those who listen 'cause it kick ass) when discover Death they usually got amazed by that music genious. I know Death for long time but not very well. I've just recently started to listen their whole discography and I have to say that's pure genious.

How the hell did The Sound of Perserverance get so many votes?
I also noticed one person voted for Spiritual Healing. I bet I know who!!1!1
Individual Thought Patterns is fit for the ears of Jerry Lynn himself.

I somewhat agree. Most of the album is fairly average...except for Steve's fretless work.

human is just very tight rhythmically and melodically. It may not be as well written or as heavy as their other albums, but it is still very good. Indiv. Thought Patterns, and Symbolic would have been next in my list.
