Heads
I'm not looking for "brutal" or "crushing" gain. I want a nice crunch to my distortion without too much muddiness. I would like a very clear clean channel, and also I don't want to it to cost too much. Recommend away.

Lmao!
You my friend, need to be way more specific. There are Hundred's of amps that can do that. HUNDREDS. Way to many for one person to list, you need to go to a store and try out.
Some of my personal favorites, are Vox AC30's, Marshall JTM/Plexi's, Koch KC 50, Zinky blue velvet (sexy looking too), good old Fender Bassman. There are a shitload of like vintage Marshall clones out there, built by some great custom builders. There are a ton in Australia, and each one as best as the last.
By comparison, not as many High gain amps are out there, but as for clean/crunch, fuck me, there are tons.

Yeah, too vague man, but here are some ideas:
Marshall JCM800/900/Plexis
Engl - anything you can afford. Sure it can go br00t3l but the mid-gain and cleans slay.
Tech 21 - almost anything really. It's SS however, but the cleans on TM series are decent(plus it has built in spring reverb).
Vox if you don't need much crunch/don't mind using an overdrive pedal.

what setting would one use on the clean channel to get a nice twangy sound? Old school blues/country feel. Of course I would be playing on the single coil pickup but what settings would enhance that? Make is sound better.
Ok thanks.

Coil tap your neck humbucker, tad of reverb or delay, and a but of phaser, compression, etc.
Or your bridge pickup, roll down the volume a tad, also the tone pot a tad.

Short delay for that 50's twangy feedback, if you like that kind of sound...
Actually I'd say dime the volume knob on your single coils, as you want a lot of bite and twang for country and such...
