Grunting
Hi,
I've taken some singing lessons (nothing like grunting or screaming) but I was wondering how much harm would be caused to my vocal chords if i tried to grunt or scream because I've recently turned 16 and i doubt my voice is fully developed.
Would it be too risky, or if I take care using some of the information on the forums would it be ok?
Thanks

Haha, thats not a problem. Im 13, and i can sing clean and growl like hell :P But, if you haven't sung much before, then take it easy, so that your voice dont fuck up that easily. So, my advice is to take it easy in a month or two, but after that, theres no problem.

If you took singining lessons no problem. Your Vocal chrods should be strong enough aslong as you did your breathing exercises.

Pretty much what everyone else is saying. Breathing technique is essential if you want to keep yourself intact. Don't over do it either and give yourself time to rest when needed. Also, when it comes to grunting it's less straining on the throat (In terms of starting) than say, highs..or at least how I found it to be. I'm 17 and my lows are fine, highs can mess you up easily though (Often overdone by people because they assume highs require an immense strain). If you've taken lessons you'll be fine really. On some occasions your voice might feel a little weak but that's generally how many people do it which is ..damaging it and letting it heal to make it more durable. I did know one guy who did get Chronic Bronchitis at one point though. He toured relentlessly and it had a large toll on him because he never gave himself a break.
