Alesis Midiverb4/Effects Processors suggestions
I think I am going to be upgrading to a rack setup in the far future and was checking out some rackmountable effects processors lately. I dont need something with 75 types of revebs and 45 choruses, just a simple, effective and reliable effects processor with at least chorus, delay and reverb and possibly an acoustic simulator and noise gate. I found the Alesis Midiverb 4, which sounds like something I might consider getting for the rack I plan to have. Does anybody have any experience with this? Hows it sound and is it worth my money? Any other suggestions on effects processors (rack mountable) are welcome.
Also, do you think its better to have the noise gate in a pedal form like the NS2 so I can turn it on and off at will instead of having to turn it off on the FX processor unit?

The TC G-Major should suit you fine.

all ive heard about those units is that they suck tone alot, wich is bad..
i used to own a rocktron intellifex,
great delays, great reverbs, good 8 way chorus, flanger is pretty bad imo, a usable pitchshifter (then again most pitchshifters suck soundwise unles you get 3000 euro eventide rack unit stuff), useable noisegate (cant ermember how good it was cuz i never use a gate).
it doesnt have a acoustic simulator.
depending on what effects you want, for delay, reverb and chorus this unit RULES BIGTIME!!! it doesnt suck tone either (not alot atleast)
i think you could find one for about 150 euros, i payd 250 for mine 2 years ago (i should never have sold it
just check them out, or search for some info or so

I use the Midiverb four.
Its got all the delay, flange, reverb and chorus you need, even pitch shifting and stuff. But no noise gate or acoustic simulator.
Its a good unit but its fucking difficult to program.

oh i forgot to add, intellifex also has ducked reverbs/delays.
ducked means that, u can set them to string sensitivity. the harder you hit a note the harder that note will delay or reverb, its pretty cool for cleans and solos

I was checking out some older threads and it seemed that xdislexicx was very happy with his TC electronics G Major. I also hear good things about the Rocktron Intellifex. I still dont know too much about the Alesis Midiverb4 yet but I'm trying to research more. Hopefully some of the guitar shops around me have those 3 FX processors in stock so I can demo them myself and see how I like it. I'm not sure if this matters too much but the FX processor would be mostly used for clean sounds and clean and distorted solos only, not my rhythm sounds. For example, I like that far out type of sound that David Gilmour gets with his solos and his overall clean sound. Treys solo sound is damn cool too. Just thought I'd mention that.
The ducked reverbs and delays sounds like an interesting idea, I'd love to hear that.

Alesis units are tits. The best quality/price ratio for Alesis units, the Quadraverb 2. The chorus's and flangers are meh, but the ambient effects are great.

thanks for all the info guys. Do you know any rackmount FX units(preferably ones that are still made so I can demo one in a store myself) which have good ambient effects along with chorus, reverb and delay?
Also, I was just wondering with these rackmountable FX units like the G Force, Gmajor, intellifex, quadraverb, etc, do you need do download software from the internet for it or can it just work right out of the box? and what other types of cables would I need to hook this up besides midi (5 pin) and 1/4" instrument cables? Thanks.

i dno bout the g force, but the intellifex, gmajor, and quadraverb u dont hafto dl software
also, they dont build the intellifex anymore. and i guess all you need cable wise is a midi cable (if you have a floorboard) and a 1 or 2 regular guitarcables to connect it to the preamp/amp, i guess youll get the adapter with the unit ofcuz.

Yeah, Ive tried it out, and they are fairly popular. I played it through a jmp-1 and marshall p/a. Quite transparent, effects are good. But I like the Quadraverb more for ambient effects.

I was checking out Eventide and they seem to have lots of good stuff. The H8000 seems like overkill to me, but the Eclipse seems like something more reasonable and it sounds like it would be fit for some killer ambient effects. What do you guys think about the Eventide Eclipse?

well eventide is probaly the ebst or one of the best units, their also realy expensive and fucking hard to program.
i dno if your just into some reverb delay and chorus, there are alot of good units for way less than any eventide unit... unless ur a rich bastard

Well, I'll be a rich bastard in about 5 years after I finish college. And then thats when I'll be getting some major upgrades and some custom guitars and basically get a big case of GAS.
I was looking for some cool ambient effects like David Gilmour uses and also Trey of Morbid Angel. The Eclipse isnt to expensive (about $1,000) compared to the higher Eventide models like the H8000 (about $5000). But I'd better start saving now
I was chekcing out power conditioners from Furman (PL series) and noticed that there are two types, one for 15 amp usage (PL Plus) and 20 amp usage (PL Pro)? What does that mean and which would would be better for me?
