REcording Extreme Vocals
What are some techniques used for recording extreme vocals, such as Growling and Screaming? I was just kind of thinking, what if you used multipul vocals placed around someones head, sort of like how you might mic the back of a cab, why not the side of someones head and back of their head, all will have a different sound, it was just a though, i have no idea hwat it owuld do.

You would probably just lose the treble and it would get more muffled and distant sounding.

without doing it i can tell you (going upon what was said before me) that the goal of miking is getting the best positions available to capture the sound. I'm not exactly sure why you would want to capture the air behind somebody singing but that would be basically what you're doing. Also unless your singer is truly loud enough the further you take the mike from the persons mouth the more air and other noise is going to be captured instead of vocals.
its a good idea to think out of the box and try new things so if you want to spend some time moving mikes around be my guest. But i can tell you, you're not going to recieve decient results like that. now would you could maybe do is... multiple mikes near the person singing, i've done it before and i might try it again.

To be honest i just use my condenser mic. Put it about 1 foot (or less) from my face. A little higher than my mouth (forcing me to slightly tilt my head up) and go from there.
It works pretty well.....

Where should my settings be for recording screaming (so I don't get clipping and distortion and other such things)

Just set volumes like you would normally do. I mean there isn't much to it to be honest. If your actually loud (most people aren't that loud when doing metal vocals.) just set the input volume lower. I just realized this now with my new setup i dunno how i'm gonna run the compressor as i'm not used to it.. But especially with metal compressing the vocals is a god damn MUST. Look into doing it, while recording if at all possible but not required. That also prevents clipping and all that. (if your running it while singing, you can't do shit about it after the fact)
