Megadeth album update in which...

...Mustaine, as usual, acts like a complete fucking tool.

It occurs to me mustain is riding the political waves in the US.
Instead of his past social commentary, he is just spouting oppinions most Americans would agree on. I guess..

I wouldn't say he is being a complete tool. I understand why he could be upset about how long it takes a bureaucratic entity like the U.N. to organize anything. When ever the U.N. does do anything other than debate its usually to little too late. The damage has been done.

Sounds like old school Dave to me

I don't feel comfortable with all this Dave Mustaine bashing/hate the old metalhead Pov. Bottom line is he is getting quoted by CNN and has a career at making music.

Are any of us getting quoted by CNN?

All Megadeth albums with a government theme have kicked ass. I will not bitch about Dave perhaps drinking again.

Stopped watch theory, I'm afraid. Dave Mustaine is not the first person I look to for an intelligent critique of multilateral diplomacy.

Also, if you read the way he's quoted...

"I was watching TV and saw the trucks that said 'UN' on them and said, 'Man, you are so uncool, ineffective, anything," the singer/guitarist said in a recent Billboard interview.

"I thought, 'Wow, I've got to run with this. I got it -- United Abominations, 'cause it's an abomination what they're doing!' "

That is not how a 45 year old man should sound. That is the kind of shit you would read from metal_monkey, who is (by his own admission) one haircut away from not even being a fucking primate.

Uncharacteristicly naive; a human reaching 30, 40, 128 isn't a guarantee for anything apart from a steadily increasing chance of agonising breakdowns. (Refering to health that is. Nothing, not age nor place of birth, seem to have any kind of influence on agonising breakdowns in music.)
And granted, Mustaine has never been the top of man of rethorics and his lyrics, as far as I've even seen, is an epitome of the principle "In your face, with a piece of shredd solo up your ass" and that's pretty much it.
Besides, if I'd had a penny for everytime I know through personal experience - or at least from someone close to me who was right there and then - that journalists have misinterpreted/misunderstood/made sloopy notes/been after a scoop/"misunderstood"/made up/been edited into oblivion, I think I'd have a dinner for two at five-star-restaurant Barrique ready, with full wine-menu added, yes please.

I have to say, you are right. I read the whole article so fast that I only seen what I wanted or already know about Dave. Dave should have some deeper wisdom with his age to know how to choose his words better, if he was quoted correctly. He maybe drinking again though. I believe that when he sits down and takes time to think, he can have some ingenious insight via his music and lyrics.

I think that when Dave has to talk on the spot he normally makes a dumbass of himself; remember the Ireland show ( also drunk )?

I'm just glad to see him activated by world events again though, even if he does blow it with interviews. I believe I understand where he is going with issues without him having the right words to actually say it. Perhaps that is why I defend him or its my wanting to think he is still cool in some way, not sure.

His music will reflect his views better than his interviews. That is what he is best at imo. He really shouldn't do anymore interviews.

my musical taste outside of megadeth has NOTHING to do with the fact that mustaine is a walking contradiction of what he once was, and is nothing but a money hungry and "power" loving 2nd rate musician

2nd rate musician? um yeah right did you actually ever heard one megadeth solo?

I can understand that if someone is pointing that laser thing in your eye the whole time it can be annoying. I would probably reacted the same way. Sometimes people do such stupid things a concerts like trowing their shoes at the microphone so it falls over & stuff like that. At leastst thats funny. A laser is just childisch really.

If some guy was shining in a laser in my face while doing something on the street I'd probably the same thing Dave here did.... if I was given a taser gun I'd probably zap him and if I was given the power to mobilize hordes of people to kick the crap out of this person, why not. Mustaine might be an arrogant cunt at times but that video doesn't really show anything besides the fact that he's a person and not a jukebox.

Money hungry? Power loving? Exactly how do you figure this? Give me some examples.

If that jackass were shining a laser in my eyes, I'd be pissed, too. Also, I can't vouch for how sober Dave may or may not have been that night, but still, he had a reason to be pissed. Second, Dave warned the guy, made a little fun of him, but never actually urged the crowd to take action on his behalf. He stated it as an option, but he never actually told anyone to beat that kid's ass.

And I really can't figure out where you got the whole "money hungry" thing from. He never went around suing people because they were using his name on a fucking crayon or sharing his songs over the internet. Megadeth's annual festival is still one of the cheapest concerts you can go to and see eight bands play. I recall seeing Metallica with Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Mudvayne, and Deftones and paying $86 for a shitty nosebleed section seat.

Meanwhile, Gigantour tickets are about half that price for a much better lineup. Even with the outrageous markup charged by Hard Rock Live here in Orlando, (Orlando, Florida tickets cost $20 more than Tampa, which is two hours away), Gigantour is still one of the best deals around.

As for Dave being a second rate musician, I guess we'll let you be the judge of that, considering what a world famous virtuoso you are. The man has come back from a damn near career ending arm injury and can still play circles around you, me, and probably anyone else on these boards.

I am no Dave Mustaine fanboy, and have criticized him myself plenty of times. The difference is that unlike yours, my criticism is grounded in reality. And quit typing in all caps, it's childish and fucking annoying.

Yes, and all the ones I like are either by Chris Poland or Marty Friedman. Mustaine is a shit soloist and I wish that throughout Rust In Peace he'd just stick to writing riffs and let Friedman get on with the solos rather than pandering to his own ego ("Anything Marty can do I can do better").

I agree on saying that chris poland & marty friedman are better than dave mustaine. Those two are guitarwonders, but dave is pretty good himself in my book. But wasnt the topic the new album?

I'm not big on recent Dave (more on that in a bit), but that video doesn't really demonstrate anything bad. I've seen people get a lot whinier than that about laser pointers (and many other things) on this thing called the internet, which they use to complain about their inane bullshit. He, at least, did it in person in a public venue where people actually went specifically to listen to him.

That aside, Dave has become only more inarticulate, myopic, and knee-jerkingly conservative in recent years. To claim that he's even remotely the 'same old Dave' is like telling yourself you really like the Boca Burgers and O'Doul's you've been eating and drinking instead of the real thing ever since you got married. He doesn't know who he is anymore, and, maybe, if we stop pretending he's still the same person, he will too.

"Old Dave" has been in and out of rehab twelve fucking times. He also died and was ressucitated, (did I spell that correctly? y'know what I mean). For all intents and purposes "Old Dave" was a fucking dumbass. I am glad "Old Dave" is gone. In my opinnion, Dave Mustaine is one hell of a musician and a songwriter, as well as a guy who's very committed to his craft, (playing guitar). A lot of the bigger names in metal have gotten cmplacent and sound like shit live because they can't even play their own songs anymore. This is not case with Dave and Megadeth. I saw them last year and they rocked. They were really on top of things, and put on a great show.

As for him being more conservative as of late, well, he is 42 and has a wife and a couple of kids. He can't go around telling everyone to go fuck themselves anymore. I'm not saying he's perfect, (nowhere near it), but cut the guy some slack. At least he doesn't go around spewing the kind of stupid shit most other rockstars do. Anymore.

Dave VS Dipshit

Megadeth - Dave Mustaine Vs. Flying Bra "Dave saved his guitar solo from the flying bra with his quick wit.
He added vibrato on the last note of the solo instead of tremolopicking it like he normally does.
This enabled his picking hand to remove the bra.
He is truly a wise man."

Dave Mustaine On Jeopardy Part I
Dave Mustaine On Jeopardy Part II He owned this show.

Like Dave or not, I'd say he still kicks ass

Get me a clip of Mustaine on real, regular (i.e. no Celebrity question list bullshit) Jeopardy owning, and I'll be impressed. Though he does a good job with Elton John.

As for the 'old Dave' being a self-destructive douchebag - yes. Obviously. But, like most reformed drug-addicts and people who've gotten their 'lives on track,' he's turned into an insufferable bore who types like a teenager on the internet, whines about his representation in the media, and toes the line when it comes to typical dumbshit American politics. I can't say I want him to go back on drugs (how anyone could say that, as many said about James when St. Anger came out, is beyond me); really I just want him to shut up. It's possible to age and become stable without becoming just another cog (look at Jello Biafra), but Dave wasn't up for it.

You didn't like any of the stuff on the third album? I thought there were a few nice solos on there, too, although my favorites were always Poland's shit on Peace Sells. That whole album is a (blatantly sentimental) favorite of mine.

I'm shocked to say it but we do share something in common after all, Chris. Peace Sales is the best of all Megadeth albums imo. Dave and Poland shared equal amounts of the solos, although I hear styles in Dave's playing that he rarely showed again after. I get the feeling that Dave and Poland shared plating styles with each other and played at that medium. That might be why I enjoy it the most.

Not really, no - I just find Mustaine's solos to be an irritant eventually soothed by those of Poland and Friedman.

I think every one of Dave's solos on Peace Sells is fucking great... Wake Up Dead and Devil's Island solos are gooooood.
