grind guitar
Sounds pretty stupid............
I want to write more grindcore style songs but i seem to end up at a brick wall. I listen to AnB, Pig Destroyer, Nasum, GUT and the more i listen to it the more it seems harder to make the stuff. If anyone is in a grind band or writes grind songs, could someone just give me some pointers. Cheers

'My guitar is pointy and yours is not so I killed you'.
And you need a name with 'Anal' in it.
Inspiration? Just tune so low you can't hear the chromatic riffs you're playing anyway. And if your vocalist doesn't sound like a paving slab being dragged across a car park, you suck.

For my band. We are not really grind but we have some elements. Like if we were to sum up our music it's a cross between Misfits and Impetigo.
True grind gets more inspiration from punk than metal. Write the intro riff then the main riff than during the actual "grind" part (lot's of blasting) use lots of sliding. Then the breakdown. Write one of the heaviest riffs ever (or possibly a variation of the intro riff) then return to the blasting part.
Remember to keep it simple if you want true grindcore. Don't pollute it with technical bullshit.

Most grindsongs are very short so you want to keep it very simple and straightforward. It doesnt need to be longer than 1 minute if you want to.
Grind is the best if you mix it with some deathmetal.
Cannibal corpse riff for intro
punky barchords riff for chorus
some other riff for ending
that could be a good grind song. Try some exhumed or aborted tabs on this site for inspiration.

Hmm I don't really think Exhumed or Aborted would be the best references. Those are Death Metal bands with grind elements. Plus they are a little to technical for grind songs. Same with Cannibal Corpse. For inspiration chout some old school grind bands. Napalm Death, Old Carcass, Terrorizer, also bands like Regurgitate, Whore and Machertazo. If you want real grindcore music just combine punk riffs (I get inspired from a lot of Misfits and Accused riffs.) but add blastbeats and growl/screaming.

The 'true' grind you talk of also happens to be the rerally shite form, not that any grind is much better... You speak of shite bands like Unholy Grave, crippled bastards etc that crave to be heavy yet refuse to adopt any decent scals, rhythmns or evenadventurous playing. I'm not well educated in the world of grind, for the same reason why I'm not well educated on golf - because they're both shit and unappealing
EDIT: Easy way to making a grind band... My axe broke a few weeks ago leaving me with only two strings, so I tuned the 'E and A' down 6 steps or so then stuck on an octave pedal effect. Worked a charm, couldn't even make out riffing

This is based on what? Or purely your American inability to comprehend satire?

Listen to Terrorizer and Repulsion, as well as early ND of course.
It's mostly powerchords man, it can be groovy or outright fuckin noisy, there's no rules for playing grind. Just play the fastest noisest most nihililistic shit you can come up with and throw in a blastbeat with it.
Real political grindcore > goregrind/retarded comedy grind.
Napalm Death, Rotten Sound, Repulsion, and Terrorizer have the best riffs I've ever heard of anything labeled grindcore.

I dunno Carcass had some pretty cool riffs on Symphonies. And let's not forget about Birdflesh and Machetazo (my favourite current grind band). They have some amazing riffs. And Carlos of Machetazo is the best grind bassist ever!

I hear that. I am not a big fan of the piggy noises and all that. I love early ND and early Nasum (which is practically just early ND with different sounding vocals). My idea of perfect grind is like pig destroyer meets nasum meets rotten sound meets dillinger spazziness.
haha toronto..........so he must be american
