help deciding on a cab

well ive been using this shitty ass b52 cab for the past 4 years. i dont know if you guys have played through one but it sounds like ass. i just picked up a 5150 head and it still sounds a little muddy. anyways i found what i think is a pretty good deal.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Peavey-300-watt...1QQcmdZViewItem

let me know what you guys think... for a $100 thats not bad at all right?

Avatar is an awesome option costwise/quality-wise. I used to know a guitar player who had one, good cabs indeed.

I can also backup SixFeetUnder's comment on Marshall's - I have a 1960 Marshall cab that's been many an amp's bitch and it was amazing everytime.

As for speakers, besides the obvious Celestions, also take into account the Eminence brand. I think they're the next best choice. Randy Rhoads used them - according to him they were 'brighter' than Celestions.

I have a Marshall Mode 4 cab that I picked up new for 400 euros(550$ approx), might sell for less if bought used too. Now it's a 400W 8 ohm cab that I use with my Engl 60W Fireball, it's a bit of overkill but I couldn't find any other decent cabs(no stores in my area had 1960's in stock plus even a Fender 2x12 was more expensive!) so I ended up buying it. It fucking rules. Super tight bass response and well... it's designed to be used with a Mode 4 amp head so you can imagine the amount of juice it can take! The Celestion GK12 speakers are have a tight hi-fi sound, pronounced lows and highs(which kind of turned me off at first) and sounds wonderful, but you might need some extra EQing if you have a muddy sounding rig.

But if that fails, BUY AN AVATAR CAB. High quality parts + cheap price. Check out www.avatarcabs.com.

I have an avatar 2x12 custom, black metal grill, black tolex, 2 eminence wizards. Saves your back carrying 2x12 as opposed to 4x12. For me weight was an issue as I got the avatar in the u.s while on holidays and shipped it back to Australia. Had to ship in 2 lots to go via u.s post - speakers separate from box - then waited while I went to India. Got home, put together and voila. Well built cabs, can customise, and cheap, so cheap it was less to do the above rigmarole than just buy a piece o shit here. eg mg412 $399au blech
