Well, tremolos that don't float (such as the trem usually found on a Strat for instance) usually only allow for subtle vibrato techniques, but maybe a Kahler isn't technically 'floating'? I don't know much about Kahlers but someone else here sure will. Now they have started making them again they might become a little more common.
Learn to set up a floating trem properly, take the time, and you'll never need another kind. Do it, it's worth it
For all the extreme whammy usage (think Vader, Morbid Angel, Vai), I fully recommend a floating trem.

I'm pretty sure a Kahler isnt considered floating. The problems that floating bridges have, the Kahlers still have those problems, but not as much, so I'm told. I'm only familar with setting up and using Floyds, but I'm planning on trying to get a Kahler trem on my next guitar ,hopefully, but if not definitely on my custom axe.

Kahlers can be setup to float ( most are ) or just drive ( semi-fixed ). They have a little bit of the problems that other floating bridges do but Kahler are way more stable. If anything changes it is only small and doesn't require a VooDoo Witch Dr guitar tech to fix.
That means once it is set it stays set unless a nuclear bomb lands on it.

just get a standard floyd rose guitar and install the tremol-no.
that allows you to lock the tremolo totally with just the turn of a screw.
you can also set it up so that it only allows you to push the whammy bar down, not pull it up. its the best option in my opinion because its totally versatile.
your guitar could go from a full functional push down and pull up floyd, to a push down only floyd or a totally locked floyd which is basicly the same as a fixed bridge guitar.
im going to get one for my guitar soon...
you might aswell get one, theyre fairly cheap
edit: heres the official site - http://www.tremolno.com/

You could get one of those 80's Kramers which all had push-down only Floyd trems. Or you could just build your own out of Warmoth parts or something.

Correct me if I am wrong since I dont have a whammy...
A floating whammy will do dives and rises whereas a fixed whammy can only dive.
I'd want both highs and lows if I was going to have a whammy.
???

Correct.
I have trems on all my guitars. Well I have one of them blocked but I am replacing it with a Kahler.
