Home Stereo Receiver as faux Power Amp?

Can a home stereo receiver be used as a legit subsitute for a power amp?
I have the following setup in mind:

Guitar
\
Line 6 PODxt Live
/
Home Stereo Receiver
\
1960 Marshall Cab w/ Celestion V30s

I know that the Stereo Receiver will give a totally flat EQ response, it's what I want. The back says it is 180 watts, it's from the mid-90s.
Is this setup possible or is it gonna damage/underpower the cab?
I'm sick of playing the PODxtLive through my shitty-ass practice amp.

What are the Ohms settings for the stereo? You don't want more current than your cab or amp is rated for. If it works out then use it, but yes, it will be flat sounding.

most home stereos and speakers are 8 ohms. i got a panasonic reciever.

i used to have an awesome pioneer stereo power amp (not a reciever) man that thing was LOUD. We used it for vocals with the band haha. It was that powerful.

Checked out the ohmage, it was a-ok.
It worked, and it sounds amazing. This is the first time I'm actually using the POD XTLive in stack/poweramp mode, the was it was meant to.
Only problem is there's no sound coming out of the upper left and bottom left speakers on the cab. It might be because of the instrument cable/RCA conversion coming into the reciever [I'm using the aux inputs, I don't have a 'LINE IN' jack] but then I checked the wiring inside the cab. A red cable was totally loose from the part where it gets soldered onto the input jack of the cab. The two black ones and one red one were all connected except that one. I'm going to fix it later and see if I can get those speakers working.

A loose wire would do that....
