Amp setup
Im thinking of buying a Carvin 1000 watt powerampwith a Marshall JMP-1 preamp off the internet. thats going to go through a marshall 1960 cab. Do you guys think thats a good setup for heavy and death metal?
My other choices are a Peavey 5150 or a Marshall DSL 50, but i dont want to mess around with the bias when retubing because in Cyprus i dont think there are people who know how to do that.

sounds a like a pretty solid rig. you can't go wrong with a good ol' marshall 1960 cab. and the jmp-1 is one of my personal favorite preamps.
the poweramp should be fine. but you may want to look into a tube poweramp.

Are you serious, 1000 watts?
Why do you want that much power?

so he can get as loud as he wants with no nasty SS breakup. specially if he wants that SS tone. or, so he could run other things at the same time or save it and use it for PA or sumthin at another time. I'd get a cheaper Tube power amp, but if thats what you want.

Well a solid state 1000w power amp isnt really expensive compared to tube power amps. Also i wont know how to bias the thing if i have to retube, so having a solid state power amp would make it easier

Sounds like a good setup to me too S.S. has become very cheap compared to tube amps and far more reliable. Some people just want that feel and "flavor" that power tubes provide but by no means is it a necessity.

Good thing about SS, you dont need to replace the tubes, and since all 3 music stores closed down here i have to go 350km...(260?mi) to the nearest shop for repairs and shit. So i guess where you live can even make a difference in what you decide to buy.

Headroom.
Though, I would pick a smaller tube poweramp over that any day.

Look into a Peavey Classic 50/50 or 60/60. Those are tried-and-true tube poweramps.

But finding one in Cyprus is an issue, and also the bias issue again.

I've been to Cyprus and about all that is there are rocks, crazy roads, and olive trees. I understand. Go with what you have. Gear doesn't make a musician; practice and heart does. Great great is nice but a lot of musicians hide behide it sometimes.

I have a question about the rack. what type of cable do you use to connect the preamp to the power amp? a guitar cable or speaker cable?

You would probably use a patch cable, which is just a really short guitar cable. Never use a speaker cable outside of the two places it should be, between your amp and your cab or between multiple cabs.

Poweramps will always have high shipping costs, because they weigh a ton!

Would this be a good poweramp for a rack? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAMSON-Servo-...1QQcmdZViewItem
Also, will it be ok if i have a s.s. power amp that has higher wattage than the cab?
Ok my rack decisions up to date: Samson Servo 300W power amp, Marshall JMP-1 and a Marshall 1960A. (if shipping is too much for the cab i might get a marshall 1936)
So what do you guys think? Good solid heavy metal rig?

Yes, you can run it direct or through the effects loop if it has one. Also, I have a Carvin DCM1000 and it rules. ZERO breakup, just super clean power.

One more question... My power amp is 300w but the cab im getting is 130 watts. Can i use the power amp bridged to get 300w and use it with the cab or do i have to use lower wattage eg stereo 100w

Run it bridged. Its better to have alot of power than worry about clipping.
