Looking for Combo amp....

Im planning on getting a Boss GT-8 to use for home practice and recording purposes and I was trying to find a combo amp, 1x12 or 2x12 to use with it. It only needs to be one channel, speakers dont really matter cause ill probably swap them out anyways, and enough power to use with a drummer. Basically I just want something simple to amplifiy the GT-8, but I dont want to get a seperate power amp and cab.

Cube will do, otherwise, better than that, get a Atomic Reactor 112.

Cube would be a waste, its full of built in effects and amp models, but ill look into the Atomic Reactor.

Yes, but it is also does the 'simple' amp thing too. Versatality aint a bad thing.

The speakers in the Cube 30 and 60 I've tried... sounded kind of farty with distortion. I didn't like em too much.

Tech 21 Trademark series are wooooooooooooooonderful little analog-wired combo amps with very tube-like dynamics and responsiveness. Built in accutronix spring reverb. Dynamic and versatile as fuck, can go from the beach boys to Cryptopsy, I haven't heard any better SS amps. The TM-30 has more than enough to keep up with a drummer(depending on the kit and the room). BUT the problem is, unless you don't like the distortion models on the GT-8(Ie: You bought it only for the effects) it WOULD be kind of a waste.

Why don't you just pick up an Avatar 2x12 cab(or 1x12!) or any used 2x12 and a Peavey Classic 50/50 power amp(or a Carvin SS poweramp if you don't give a fuck about tubes)? It would only set you back 400$ TOPS, less if you grab a SS PA or a 1x12.

Hmm awesome suggestion, both of them actually. The reason I am leaning towards a combo is for simplicity reasons. I have always liked Tech21 stuff, ill look into it.

There's nothing complex about a PA and cab combo. In fact it's simpler because the only settings you have to worry about are your GT8's. Plus you get more headroom. Like I said, go with the Tech 21 TM-30 or 60(10 is a little too weak for anything except home practice, but could will suffice for recording) only if you're not satisfied with Boss' amp modeling.

Well I only mean complex in the sense of I would have to carry 2 things instead of one.

What kind of power amp would you recommend? I was thinking of maybe just getting the Tech21 Power Engine 60. It seems like the best solution to me, just a combo without a preamp. Whatya think?

Carvin DCM150, and then a GFlex 2x12.

Well if I were to get a cab it would be an Avatar 2x12, but im think im gonna go with the Tech21 cause I can get 2 for fairly cheap and run stereo.

Damn that PE60 is a good idea. Try it beforehand though, just to know how the speaker sounds. I forgot what brand speakers they use, my TM-30 actually had a 50W speaker(great headroom and smooth, round balanced EQ).

I figure carrying your XTLive and the PA in a backpack and 2x12 cab in your hands shouldn't be a hassle.

tech 21 power engine, i knew someone who had it, sounded decent all on its own, he paired it up with a pricey effects processor/modeler and it was money.

The PE60 uses some sort of Celestion. Im assuming its either the 70/80 or the Lead 80.
