Mastodon - Blood Mountain
New track up: http://relapse.com/splash/mastodon_splash2.html
Album is due September 12th. The track is interesting. Vocals are a bit different but it still gives me that powerful "I want to uproot a fucking oak tree" feeling, which is a very good thing.
Now to see if I can get my little hands on a promo copy from Relapse

Fuck, that was good. It seemed more aggressive than stuff from the last album.

I'll probably buy it, but it still won't top Remission.

I have a soft spot for Remission, but goddamn it Leviathan did nothing for me. This should be good.

The album is great.....very inventive, makes their last two sound very safe. Lots of guest appearences too....Scott Kelly, Josh Homme, and that dude from the Mars Volta. I'm surprised about how many people didn't like Leviathan, I thought it was loads better then Remission, but that's just me. Regardless, I'm seeing many people who didn't care for Leviathan loving this album, so you should all be satisfied.

Remission is fucking awesome. Like Leviathan, but not as good.
HumanWaste, where did you hear the album? Which member of The Mars Volta?

A few internet sites have torrents up.....people have been complaining about the rip, it's only 128 kbps and some people hate that, but I have a shitty ear when it comes to music so I don't really notice the differences between rips in 128 kps and 192 kbps etc.. I looked up the Mars Volta member, it's Cedric Bixler-Zavala. He does some vocals on the track "The Siberian Divide" I believe.

I think Remission is their perfect sound. It reminds me of when two of the guys were in Today Is The Day (which is my favorite TITD album).

Listened to the whole album already. The quality was dogshit but overall I think it was pretty good. I think I'm gonna buy it when it comes out.

I couldn't wait and got the leaked version. Its fucking GOOD. Though, I'm not a fan of the whole conceptual thing again:
"In an interview with drummer Bränn Dailor it was revealed that in "The Siberian Divide" the main character is "caught in a blizzard where [he] becomes frostbitten and frozen and [he's] starving and starts to hallucinate. [Then] this snow queen appears before him and tells him it's OK to start eating his own flesh. And then he starts to do that. Then an aurora borealis appears, and he thinks it's God, and it starts affecting this crystal skull he's been toting up the mountain, and it starts to warm his body. That, coupled with the knowledge of the aurora borealis being God, gives him the strength to start to carry on again."
Who do they think they are? Black Metalerz?!

Ha, well as far as concepts go, I think this one sounds really cool.

They don't think they're black metal. They think they're 70's prog, and have for a long while now.

Blood Mountain has not left my CD player since I bought it on the 12th. I'm not sure if its Brent or Troy singing when the vocals first come in on This Mortal Soil (probably my favorite track next to Circle of Cysquatch), but damn does he sound like a deeper ranged 80's era Adrian Belew. Cedric's guest vocals are cool, but they used him differenty than I expected. Although I like what they've done, whenever I listen to Leviathan or Blood Mountain I have this tiny pining voice inside me saying "I miss Remission."
