Help me decide on an amp.
Hey, Ok so I am looking around for ideas of an amp to buy.
I borrowed from my girlfriend a Peavey 112, and it seemed pretty sweet, played a gig with it and it was fuckin easily loud enough.
Now I want something around this size, so 80-100w, something I can take to band practises, yet play small gigs with.
Now at most I want to be spending about a grand NZ, so lets just say $600us about. I would rather buy 2nd hand because there will be more to choose from, but it mostly comes down to whats available here.
I just want some ideas of amps in my price range which will be pretty good. I will be playing through an effects unit most probably.
Theres a thread on the Peavey 112 and sounds like it isnt a bad amp, but any other suggestions would be a big help.
If you can be bothered browse through here - http://www.trademe.co.nz/browse/cat...&rewritten=true
As I'll be buying off that site, see if anything there catches your eye and I'll check it out. Just to give you an idea what I have to choose from 2nd hand.
Thanks!

Are you looking for Tube or SS? Or does it matter?

I didn't really see anything in there that I would be using, but if you can find one over there I'd go for a Peavey XXX or Ultra combo, or possibly Blue Voodoo. Or you could build a special amp with a Digitech 2120 and mount into a Peavey classic combo for an awesome fucking amp. I've seen this for sale on ebay once, it was really fucking cool looking.

If you wanted the bandit. You'd need a boost pedal for that to do anything super brutal though, and don't expect it to be super tight on the bass either.

I think having a tube amp would be cool. I play mostly rock and blues over metal, but I will still play metal on it.
But I am looking at getting an effects unit so it probably doesnt really need hardcore gain, then again I would like to be able to bypass the pedal and use the sound of the amp itself if it were to be a tube.

yeah they come as a combo. 1x12 or 2x12.
they are pretty damn cheap here if you can get them used. like around $250 US for the combo.
there just might not be any used ones where you live.

I got my amp and when I got it home I realised that it had this fucking hardcore squealing sound - which im sure wasnt there when I tested it.
I read around and thought it looked as though I was guna have to buy new tubes... But I found out that the reverb tank could make the same sounding problem and dodgey tubes.
So I removed the reverb tank, checked out all its connections - I put a bit of solder on one because it looked thin.
Put it back in and sweet! Its mint now.
If anyone gets a problem with their tube amp with a high pitched squealing which sounds like interferrance - unplug the RCA leads from the reverb tank and see if that fixes it. If so, remove the tank and check out the wiring and shit inside it.
Im just wondering if anyone else can hear a tube vibrating when you're playing? Because the bass from my playing makes one of the tubes rattle (I think its the power tube next to the speaker). Though I dont think the tube is faulty... Do they rattle to an extent?
