Psycho feedback
Hi I have a bit of a problem on one of my guitars.
When im playing with medium to high gain, if I switch from the bridge pickup to the single coils (middle, middle/neck, or neck), the feedback is so bad you can barely use it. And the amp isnt turned up loud at all.
I dont know what would cause this, is it possible that it is a wiring problem at all? Or is it likely to just be the pickups.
I can settle the screaming down a bit if i turn the volume knob down on the guitar, but it seriously shouldn't be like that, like it just goes completely out of control as soon as I switch pickup position - My Ibanez doesnt do it at all which makes me wonder if it is something to do with the wiring. I dont think it used to do it either. Plus it has had wiring problems before: When i bought it used, a lot of the connections were blu-tacked into place, not soldered.
So yeah, anyone else had problems like this?

Is it screaming feedback or just noise? Cause if its more like a lot of static-like white noise then it could just be bad grounding. Crack open your control cover and have a look inside, see if there are any loose wires kickin around.

Could be microphonics from the pickups- look into 're-potting' them, its not particularly hard, or expensive either

Now that these guys mention it, it probably is the pickups. Take it as a sign that the gods of metal want you to upgrade.

I would sya grounding or some other issue...I had the problem with my jackson when I accidently disconnected the ground wire from using whammy bar. If you know how to solder or aren't afraid of checking out your guitar I'd check to see if there are any wires disconnected or touching. I know my probably only occurred when I put a mic up to my amp...i fixed the problem though by resoldering and moving some shit around...If that doesnt' fix the problem I would just purchase a new pickup...I've never tried repotting but it look weird and tedious.

Hey guys thanks for the response.
I don't think it's to do with grounding because I have delt with that before, its not buzzing i get its just really hardcore feedback when i use either of the single coils.
So is it possible that the pots might need a change? Because I would say they are probably getting on 20 years or so
If that could be it i'll have a go at swapping them out and see what happens.
Cheers

Okay so this is fucked up, i fixed the feedback by loosening the screws either side of the neck pickup...
I have no idea how this helped Maybe the screws were pulling the edges of the pickup or something but it doesnt screech at all now
