hi, i am looking for a new guitar but there are so many to look at and choose from. Can anyone suggest a few guitars with these requirements.

I want a nice thin neck like an ibanez, fast aswell.
I think i want a neck scale 25" or bigger
No Floyd Rose type system ie: Fixed bridge
Preferably superstrat shaped

I will be using the guitar for metal (anything from 80's style thrash to blind guardian type stuff to death and black metal) and also will do a lot of soloing with it.

I can spend upto £250-£300


any suggestions?

also, most guitars have a 25,5 scale
prs have 24,75 i think, 24 sumtin atleast, same for some gibsons.

also, if u read ur post, u already ansered ur question, get a frikking ibanez, with no tremolo, i mean 25,5 scale, superstrat shape, ibanez neck

i dno, id get the ibanez over the bcrich presonaly, never played a bc, but its pretty wel known that the cheaper ibanesses are build good. so i think theyll be the better choice.

maybe try some 2nd hand ibanes?? i mean, 250 to 300 isnt alot to spend, so u might egt a better model for the same money, xept it being secondhand.

mahogony, it's heavier which produces a fatter tone and combined with the fixed bridge it should have alot of sustain. and with that guitar i would change the pu's. but thats me

i prefer dimarzio x2n in the bridge and a tone zone in the neck or u could put a set of evo's. a seymore duncan jb and 59 work good. one more good one is bill larance xl-500

mahogany has a warm tone, wich wil get rather muddy unless theers a nice thick maple top onit. mahogany is also rather soft, wich dampens the notes, so the sustain wont be as good as on guitars made from harder woods.

basswood is also warm (BASS wood) i think basswood would be better for metal compared to mahogany.. UNLESS the mahogany has a thick maple top (say 5 to 10 mm's).. im not realy sure if basswood is a harder wood than mahogany.. ill check that and edit when i know.


also, a dimarzio tonezone (bridge) and dimarzio paf pro (neck) work great in a mahogany body.. i used to have an mahogany rg (with thick maple top) and it sounded great.. might not be realy ''metal'' since both pu's arent realy high output.. depending on your taste ofcuz, i personaly dont mind a bit less output for metal.

EDIt.. oke, so basswood is rather soft aswell, so i guess it wont matter alot then :P i guess u cant go realy wrong with any of them

get a jackson dxmg or dkmg. they make them in hardtail, string through versions now. i love jackson necks

Ok you are a bit off here. Mahogany has a warm tone, true, but it only gets muddy if you have slightly bassy pickups. Mahogany is also pretty hard, unless we are talking about cheap Phillipine mahagony which is very soft. Both African and Honduran mahogany (the real stuff) is pretty hard and dense. Basswood first of all is not BASS wood. It is bass as in the type of fish, not the instrument. Basswood is WAYYYYYYY softer than mahogany, I mean this shit will dent if you breath on it, it is also very very light weight. Over all, Basswood is a pretty cheap wood to use for a guitar, I dont know why John Petrucci has his signature guitar made out of it. Overall, mahogany is a far superior tone wood. Definitely get the mahagony bodied version.

Plus on your comment about pickups, the Tonezone is a pretty damn high output pickup. Its one of the higher output pickups Dimarzio makes, although there are some that are higher.
