Beneath the Massacre are fucking good. Do they have anything else out besides that one EP?

Coroner, Necrophagist, Cryptopsy, Epoch Of Unlight, Atheist, Cynic, Watchtower, old Atrocity, hell anything neoclassically influenced at that.
I've always hated the term technical. All these bands listed above have one thing in common - they write excellent songs with brilliant musicianship.

Not really. I wouldnt complain if that even was the case.
There is a greater amount of technique become involved in the newer death metal bands as a whole, granted. But is that really such an unexpected development?
And theres always stuff coming out that is more groove orientated, alot of it by people who think exactly the same as you Transient; that its all going too tech. So its nothing to worry about. Chances are if you think something, then theres others out there that think the same.
Either way, I wouldnt moan, as long as it continues to be interesting.
Ironically, OP check out Deadborn.

Nile and Cannibal Corpse. But I've only heard of a little Nile, but from what I've heard I'd say they really know how to play.

first off im not complaining! but the majority of new death metal bands are striving for technical. and just about all of them have succeeded. old simple death metal (death - spiritual healing, gorguts - considered dead, immolation - dawn of possession) is totally a thing of the past. nobody sounds like that more, everyone is going for more riffs, more time changes, etc
i could list bands but i think you understand what i mean, its a sea change really. defintely to be expected, im just saying, if you want technical bands look for the newer ones

What do you guys think of VILE? I am not really sure if they are technical or not seeing as i just got "the new age of chaos" yesterday and only listened to it while driving, so I wasn't able to remember much. Brutal death metal is always a blur on the first listen for me anyway.

Cool. I have heard a few people rag on the production but the only thing i think needed tweaking was the amount of gain on the guitars, they sound kinda muddy. It sounds like he was using his neck pickup exclusivley.

I actually like the tone hah. You can actually hear every note being played and it has a lot of mids. Very warm tone.

Well it is listenable, much unlike the Darkthrone-esque black metal bands guitar tone where it is all treble and fuzz with very little note definition at all. The tone on this Vile album reminds me a lot of Domination-era Morbid Angel.

Yeah it does. I was just providing a counterpoint to what younguitarist said about warm tone. I was agreeing with him saying I would rather have a tone on a death metal album to be more towards the warm side than the over fuzzed-out black metal bands. No offense to anyone but that is just my personal preference.

Sorry dude, Opeth is not even close to technical or 'prog-black.'
If you want true 'progressive black' go listen to older Arcturus or 'IX Equilibrium' by Emperor. And SikTH? Come on...
You only get points for mentioning a band Jason Becker was in. Cacophony, while possibly very outdated [especially vocal-wise] was sick.

I think the only things Necrophagist ever put out as LPs were 'Epitaph' and 'Onset Of Putrefaction'. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, but the drums are even more awesome. I can't stop listening to this band, the fucking riff changes are crazy and they just rule like shit. Especially Bobby Jarzombek.

I enjoy all cryptopsy and the older Decapitated records. Anything more technical than that is fucking boring as fuck.

These I listen to frequently-
Suffocation
Watchtower
Atheist
Cynic
older Forbidden
Necrophagist
Coroner
older Monstrosity
newer Cannibal Corpse
later Emperor
MORBID FUCKING ANGEL
There are other tech bands that are excellent that for whatever reason I just don't listen to much. Here are some-
Decapitated
Misery Index
Vile
Dying Fetus
Vader (except the first album, I listen to that a lot)

A question (just not to open a new thread - if I should, just tell me) -
Iīm sure that there are some technical bands out there with only one guitar-player...but are there also technical bands out there which really recorded a cd with one guitar only? I mean, for example, Sleep Terror has one guitar only, but on the cdīs there are solos with rhythm and leadguitar which he definitely couldnīt play live.
Iīm just curious about this...Brain Driller have 1 guitar only as well...but I think they harmonized stuff with a second guitar on the recording and there is a solo as well...
any other bands/suggestions/opinions?
and do you think that itīs possible to be a good technical live band with only one guitar? (since you can put as many guitars as you want on the recordings)

Any ban that has the oppotunity to double their guitar tracks in teh studio most likely will. In technical death metal, you got the guitar and bass playing lots of single note runs very rapidly, and if you only had one guitar track doing it, the bass would usually overpower it and we all know that can't happen. As for being a good tech live band, fucking Decapitated sounded great live. As long as you have a compitent bass player to play the rhythm stuff during the solo and the lower end of the harmonized shit during the harmonized parts, it should be fine.

Maybe not the newer stuff. Take a listen to the first album, though. All sorts of little things going on that most people wouldn't even notice... very tricky shit.
