Is this possible?

Alright so I just got a 5150 and I don't have a cab. I was thinking though I have some speakers that are 8 ohms. I was wondering would it be possible to hook up the 5150 to those?

If that is possible to just run the 5150 out of any set of speakers that is the correct ohms I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to convert an old speaker connect to a 1/4" jack. What I mean is these speakers require that you plug in 2 individual speaker wires. I'm talking about the stuff you buy in bulk and can run all around...Each speaker has a left and a right that takes the copper and whatever the other thing is. I was thinking of running wires from the plug in and wrapping it around a left/right convert to a single input. Like if you wanted an ipod to play on a stereo...Hope that makes sense. I can take some pictures of what I mean if you want.

I'm not sure if you should do that. I was in your situation a while ago, I had a head, but no cab and was trying to figure out a way to hook up speakers to it. I think its just better if you save up for a cab.

isn't a cab just a bunch of speakers wired to 1 input?

Well yeah, but if you're not 100% sure what you are doing you might fuck up your head, I think its just safer and easier to get a cab. Wait for other replys as they would know loads more about this than me.

hmm i'm not sure but if you have two 8 ohm speakers then wouldn't you have to have the head to be running at 4 ohms then?

Yes, that would make up 4 ohms of resistance.
I wouldn't think it'd damage your head... the speakers maybe, but not the head.

That might just be me, though.

It says 8ohms on the back. 80watts hehehe. So I don't know these speakers are from the 70s but they work. I've been using them for years for surround sound. I would plan just to hook up 1 speaker out of the set of 4.

if the speaker is 8 ohms and your head runs at 8 ohms, then it *should* be fine. There might be something i dont know about that would fuck it up. But i have no idea.
