There`s no best death metal album. There`s too many awesome ones to pick just a few. Having said that, there`s sure many shit ones too.

For me
Newish: Necrophagist-Epitaph
Old school: Pungent Stech-For God Your Soul....For Me Your Flesh.
There is not a best DM album. It's all about oppinion.

IMO Blood Red Throne's "Altered Genesis" is the heaviest fucking thing to come out in the last few years. Its fast as hell, has copious amounts headbanging riffs, and manages to be very catchy and memorable. Most death metal bands today focus way too much on the technical aspect of the genre (Decapitated manage to do it without losing too much in the way of songwriting), while forgetting that someitmes even metalhead musicians just wanna fucking headbang and feel like a ridiculously powerful beast while listening to their music. Altered Genesis provided that in spades for me.

Decapitated - Nihility, Winds of Creation
Kataklysm - Shadows and Dust
All Necrophagists albums are awesome....
the new Sleep Terror and the new Spawn of Possession are badass as well.

Newest: Fermento - Insignia (2004), Deeds Of Flesh - Reduced To Ashes (2003)
All Time: too much
Necrophagist's Epitaph is really bad, onset of putrefation is much better

Do not mention Symbols of Failure in this thread.
Ones that impressed me in the last year or 2:
Dismember - The God That Never Was
Rotten Sound - Consume To Contaminate (hardly DM but fuck up.)
Phobia - Cruel (nor is this.. but any worthy DM fan should like it. Take it as a suggestion.)
Guttural Secrete - Reek of Pubescent Despoilment
Stargazer - The Scream That Tore The Sky
Saprogenic - Ichneumonid
Dim Mak - Knives of Ice
Spawn of Possession - Noctambulant

I don't listen to much new Death Metal, I like more the old school albums.
-Krisiun is a great band (in my opinion), their last work is Assasination, I haven't heard that one, but the rest of the albums i heard from them are great.
-The Chasm is great too, I heard some songs of their last record, but I don't remember the name of it, FUCK!!!
-Rebaelliun - Burn The Promise Land, is not very new, but a good album, too fucking good. I haven't heard their last one.
-Deicide's Scars Of The Crucifix, I didn't hear much songs, but what I heard was more than OK, I prefer the old ones, though. The last one is The Stench Of Redemption, i don't know if it has been released yet.
-About Cannibal Corpse's Kill, I only heard two songs, which are not bad at all, but it didn't impressed me much.
All time favorites:
Deicide - Deicide, Legions, Once Upon The Cross
Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness, Blessed Are The Sick
Rebaelliun - Burn The Promise Land
Death - Human, Individual Thought Patterns... ALL
Immolation - Dawn Of Possession
...And a lot more

Right now im liking Scrambled Defunct's Hackled In Gore or Aeon's Bleeding The False. Id say Noctambulant is the best album out this year, but thats only cause the new Martyr aint out yet.
