Alright. I'm the kind of player thats staying pretty much in the power chord formation, sliding and jumping all over th place with the power chord. Not ALL power chords but switching up every now and then. (Suffo., soilent green, disgorge, hate eternal.)

I got a jackson guitar and I like the neck. And thats saying a lot cuz its a cheap JSRR30. That neck just makes it easy to move around on. Guitar sucks; I like the feel of the neck.

I also got a Ibanez RG270 and that is what I mostly play on now. The neck is nice and thin. Easy to play up in the higher frets. That guitar, I like to practice my leads on. But jumping from power chords directly next to each other is hard. EX: From low E,A to A,D. Make sense? The Low E just keeps bending off the side of the fret. Maybe its me but the jackson neck never has done that.

I like how easy it is to bust leads on the ibanez but the flatness of the neck makes a little difficult to jump around the neck on the riffage.


So... what would be a guitar with a fast neck good for riffage and tight soloing?

Any experiences you've had with different necks I'd like to hear.

Well, from my experience I love Jackson necks, I have a KVX10, the neck is grea t for riffage and solo'y stuff. A lot of people love Ibanez necks though, the best thing to do is go to a guitar shop and try all the different guitars there yourself, everyone's preferences are different.

IMO. but seriously, people who say they suck are just jealous. some say thier overpriced, but I seriously cant find a guitar I like as much for less money, or more money for that matter.

Almost any jackson or ibanez or any "Modern" guitar will be good enough for what you want to do.

If you are bending strings off of the fretboard thats bad technique, not the necks fault.

Octave chords and such. Similar to the song Chants in Declaration. And yeah... tremolo. heh. And also those weird octave chords with that note in the middle. Not a fifth but a half step lower.

okay, this is guna sound really wierd, but here it goes. I own an ibanez RG, and a bc rich kkv, and both had tiny, thin necks, but i can play faster on my Eastwood GP, which has a clearly thicker and rounder neck. I can't play for SHIT on any esp/ltd existing, even my buddie's mh-400 which has a thinner neck than my ibanez (i know, its heresy to say it). I dont know what it is, but i find that this neck is faster than those brands. The shape isnt round like half circle though, its more like the bottom of a boat which might have to do with it. I cant play very fast on gibsons or jacksons because they have that perfect circle like roundness... yeah... so thats my thing on fast neck. I find what REALLY helps with my speed is big frets and tight strings... oh and a fixed bridge... floyd spacing kills me.

I cant say ive played on alot of Jackson Guitars , only a DK2 because its the only left handed model I could play on in the guitar store back up in Manchester.

But out of that , and my Ibanez rg370 , I'd prefer my Rg.
But thats probably because im so used to playing it.

I've found that there can be quite a large difference in Jackson neck thicknesses.

I loved the neck on my old PS-2 (Japanese, really solid guitar, remind me why I sold it??) is great. I sold it to a friend and so I still get to play it now and again.

The neck on my old KX10D was substantially thicker, and wasn't so nice.

So yes, go and play different guitars, the term 'Jackson necks' isn't really definitive of any particular thickness or shape in my experience.

I now play Ibanez and love the thinness.

Well, two differences in Jackson and Ibanez necks, at least from what I've seen, are that (1) Jacksons are more often thinner than Ibanez necks (Wizard 1 Prestige necks are probably Ibanez's equivalent to Jackson's usual ridiculous thinness) and (2) most Ibanez necks have jumbo frets.

I'm content with Ibanez Wizard II necks. The Wizard I is cool and all but it's just a little too thin for my preference. Perhaps because of my long hands, although a few of my friends with average-sized hands have agreed that not only Wizard I but also Jackson necks are just too thin for comfort.

Man, this is totally subjective.
It's commonly known that Ibanez Wizard necks are the 'fastest' necks out there. I've been kicking ass with my RG570 for almost 10 years now and that neck still feels as good as anything. Jackson necks rule too. Personally for me I cannot stand B.C. Rich necks [but I love the Ironbird.] Playing guitars like Schecter has also grown me into playing with those thinner fatter necks, it's good for a change and also I find it easier to sweep on those necks.
The best guitar neck I have ever played - obviously - is a PRS.
I guess some guitar players are paranoid about their left hand, but for me it doesn't matter what neck I use though, it all comes down to your technique. I'm extremely picky about my right hand though - I can only use one type of pick and only after I sharpen it.

Your technique probably has something to do with certain necks feeling awkward. I used to hate my buddy's warlock because the neck felt too thick, but as my playing has improved, it just seems to matter less. In fact, I even have a Bich now, but I still prefer my RG.

Jackson, however, has this compound radius fretboard thing.. and I don't know exactly how it works, but apparently it is supposed to make chording easier toward the nut, and lead-play faster up the fretboard. But I would stay away from Jackson if you don't have at least $500-600 to pick up something like a DKMG, and don't get it confused with the dXmg, which is cheaper and has a chunkier neck.

i THINK, compound radius makes the fretboard a cone shape instead of a cylinder. So its rounder at the low frets, and flatter at the high ones.

Yeah.. thats exactly what I like about the jackson neck. I just don't feel that on the Ibanez though. I'm just picky like that I guess.

Personally, it is mostly in the guitarist, you learn to compensate for any problems that are persisting. . . I tend to like thicker necked guitars which would make me an oddity on this site. . . PRS, ESP, Gibson. .. not a big fan of really thin necks, the compound radius necks are alright, but personally, I hate Ibanez necks. . .or just Ibanez guitars in general, the wood sucks, the pickup's suck, the neck is too sharp and causes pain for my hands after an hour or so of use, so take an Ibanez, give it a better wood for the body, give it a different neck, and get rid of their stock pick up's and I might play one.

the js30 necks are a lot flatter that the rest of the jackson models. plays fast, but makes my hand cramp like a bitch. the necks on most other jacksons are alot rounder than the js30 necks, but they play just as easy, and they dont make my hand cramp up after playing for a bit.
