Nevermind, I have found some of the leak. It's only a matter of time before I have it all but I'm still buying it once it comes out.

Same here, I soulseeked it. And I have plans on buying it too because I just fucking love Slayer.
EDIT: Soulseek took too long so I downloaded it with bittorrent, and so far it's fucking awesome.

If I were Slayer I would be mega pissed at the record company for pushing it back 2 months. Of course it was going to leak within that time and it is going to do nothing but ruin sales. Music store said they had people in there all day asking about it but they can't release it until the record company gives the word to push the release date up. Even the record company doesn't care or they are blind. (See last sentence)

I've listened through it once. It will take some time to get used to.
It sounds nothing like season in the abyss though....more like GHUA with a little more attitude (ehhh....)
Whats with their fucking guitars though? You can hear em flopping around like 3/4 of the time...that shit pisses me off.
KERRY STOP BEING A PUSSY AND USE BIGGER STRING GUAGES!!!
Just to back that comment up: He uses .042 for Eb, .046 for Db, and a .056 for
Drop B..(coincidently, those are the tunings they used on the new album)
I'm pretty sure jeff uses the same guages as well...hence the SUPERFLOP sound.

Mediocre at best.
Jihad and Black Serenade both have a couple of decent riffs, but apart from that, this album has some of the poorest riffs I have ever heard. There were literally only 2 riffs on the album that made me go "niiiiiiiiice..." and start grinning (which is what I do when I encounter a particularly good riff).
I listened to the whole album, but if it wasn't slayer I would have switched it off after 3 songs.
I do like the solos though, they're all good (if you like slayer solos).
I'd give it 5/10

Kerry played both rhythm tracks, so any flopping you hear there's all him.
Some of it's a welcome change (back to the familiar) and some of it's the same old bullshit that you'd think Kerry would get tired of forcing out. In any case I severely doubt that this will be one of the albums I think of when I talk about how great Slayer is; and while second-rate Slayer may be better than a lot of the shit out there, I don't feel much need to listen to it when I've got first-rate Slayer that can scratch the same itch.

I had this whole long ramble written out, but PST basically summed it up. Stop bitching about how bad new Slayer is, and look back at all of their great work and focus on that. Shit, I think you'd rather people focus on your good work, rather than your darker moments.
I haven't heard it, and if anyone wants to send it to me, I'll be on AIM (I also need some of the classic albums, alot of my music got deleted ). I won't trash the album if its bad, but I will already say it does probably blow.

I dont like how much most of the songs were dropped. It doenst exactly sound like slayer, nor do i enjoy the "floopyness" as was stated earlier in the thread. The drums tone sounds weak, i mean, dont get me wrong, the beat is great, i dont like whatever set they use though. Bass is still same old bollocks, but, it isnt TOO far off from slayer...
i havent heard all the songs, im not going to buy the album from what i heard so far.

I'm liking it so far, sounds more chaotic than more recent Slayer albums and I'm liking the production
As previously mentioned, a nice thrash album

You know what really gets my attention? It's when a song is written and I could swear it was written specifically about me or I could have written it. Slayer has always had that effect with me but "Eyes of the Insane" has been like
It's damn creepy for my to listen to this song. The lyrics are shocking and encompass a lot of my thoughts.
"A Soldier's heart,
Reflexing back at me,
I keep seeing mutilated faces,
Even in my dreams,
Distorted images,
Flashing rapidly,
Psychically abusing me,
Devouring my brain.
The eyes of the insane,
Another manic campaign,
Tortured spirits,
Will not let me rest,
These thoughts of mutilated faces,
Completely possessed,
Fragmented images,
flashing rapidly,
Psychically abusing me,
Running through me head.
Shell shocked,
Battle machine,
Overwhelming anxiety,
Flash backs,
Panic attacks,
Death's raising his ugly face at ME!
Got to make it stop,
Can't take it any more,
They'll just keep haunting me,
They'll just keep coming back for more.
The eyes of the insane,
Another manic campaign,
Flash backs,
Panic attacks,
Death's raising his ugly face at ME!
Got to make it stop,
Can't take it any more,
They'll just keep haunting me,
They'll just keep coming back for more.
*bad ass lead guitar time*
Got to make it stop,
Can't take it any more,
They'll just keep haunting me,
They'll just keep coming back for more.
A Soldier
Of misfortune,
I owe my pain and suffuring,
To this hell,
These demons,
Ripping through my soul,
Evil's relentless hostage,
Will not let me sleep.
Shell shocked,
Battle machine,
Devasating insanity,
Flash backs,
Panic attacks,
Death's raising his ugly head before ME!"
Now I'm a seafarer warrior, but this song HITS hard with me. If you think being a Sailor is easier then being in the Army or Marines do a tour and then talk.
I don't know how Slayer gets this shit but I'm loving it.

to good a production destroys thrash...I only listened to Cult off their website. The solos were much more tolerable then the solos on Reign in Blood. Sounds a lot like God Hates Us All. I'm not a huge slayer fan because of the solos and the lack of progression in the band. They've always been built upon speed and they've never really changed their focus. Speed is great, but dynamics and changing shit up while staying fast is a must. Slayer is always just blah. Simple fast riffing. Go listen to Violator or Bywar....that is some quality thrash that is NEW.

production is the second most important element in music (after the songs, obviously).
production can make or break an album.

Production matters. If you've got the money and experience to make a good-sounding album and don't bother, it doesn't bode well for the music, either. And Slayer's past accomplishments have no bearing on what they do now, except to cast an unflattering light.

I usually don't find production matters for me, although I don't really like very loud production, like Bloodthirst-CC. I like Hell Awaits, it's my favorite album and I like the weak-ish quiet production.

Well you say that now, but I can guarantee that an album can be completely ruined by horrible production. If you have ever been in the studio you know how much work goes into these things.

There is such thing as over-production though. Not in this specific album's case, but look back on the 80s hair metal bands, fakest sound you could possibly imagine. Im liking this album more every time i listen to it, but i think the lack of a good first impression still makes me frown on it

Anything that isn't recorded like an old black metal album with all members playing simultaneously is "fake".

Slayer is never going to sound like Reign in Blood or any of their older CDs, so you guys can just give up on that hope. Either like what they're doing now, or don't, but quit fucking comparing everything to their earlier stuff.

I think some of the grittiness is lost with a good production. Production is important, but some grittiness and awkwardness makes certain genres a lot better, one of them being thrash. Power metal on the other hand would be bad with poor production value because it focuses on accuracy, clean vocals, and lots of clarity with the instruments. I'm just saying that if I was slayer I'd go with a weaker producer so that the production might be a little more raw and in your face.

If it's released under the name 'Slayer' it's already asking to be compared to everything else under that name. We shouldn't be expecting them to play like it's the 80's anymore - that's impossible, anyway - but we should definitely be comparing them to the quality standards they set.
Production can be gritty without losing clarity. Bob Rock doesn't know this, but some people do.

I'm with PST. This is Slayer and so far the only thing we got to compare it to is past Slayer. It's a different time for them and us. That affects how they write and how we listen. They have been making music since 1980 ( I maybe wrong ). Who was alive then and are still bitching about what they write now? Not many that I know of. "Back in the day" no one liked their music either when it was first released. Reign in Blood was pissed on by many so called Metalheads back then. If it wasn't Motley Crew, Poison, Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, or Nirvana (during the earily 90's ), who the fuck cared? Most other bands were "like far more" real, better, and had more technical music, right? Kids at school thought I was out of my damn mind for listening to bands like Slayer, but I liked the way it sounded;( if they only knew about other death metal bands I was listening to ). Funny thing is Slayer is still here and the pop music of that time is long gone.
I know what I'm saying may sound strange, but back in the late 80's and 90's, Slayer were not worth spitting on music wise. I'm just glad they kept making some kind of music. The 90's were not a great time for Slayer. From what I can see today, not much with peoples opinions has changed, but its a different battle. Everyone hates change and those that bitch the most were not old enough to remember the old albums coming out. It seems yet again modern metalheads have to define what is in or lame, but where do these judges go later in life? Where are those old bitchfest poser metalheads from yesterday and what are they listening to now? I think it will take years for todays Slayer to become valued by metalheads just like the older Slayer music is today.

Great post Soul.
I just got the CD yesterday and I'm fucking loving it. Real intense, fast, heavy, etc. They got some of their old sound back too, but still with a new twist. It's already one of my favorite CDs.

Following on from Soulinsane....
I was there in the early 80's, Slayer were not the only band that were mocked by those that called themselves 'regular' metalheads. The whole thrash genre was laughed at by those self imposed bastions of true quality metal. Metallica were treated as inferior musicians(one review for the Jump in the Fire ep just said 'Jump in the bin!' The same mag *Kerrang* a few years later were kissing arse over Master of Puppets) Metallica never really crossed over to the cool side until guitar shop fodder like Enter Sandman soiled our ears.
Hell I think even S.O.D. did a piss take about Slayer called Douche Crew!
Reign in Blood was hated with just as much conviction as it was loved. I loved it

the fact that old Slayer is more appreciated today is simply because more people have access to it. back in the '80s they didn't had the exposure they have today.
it has nothing to do with wether or not their music was better back then or how much they were ignored by the mainstream metal crowd. they were always valued, even 20 years ago. what happens now is that the small market who valued them expanded and grew bigger.
and that's the problem with today's Slayer (and music in general). there's nothing to expand. you can easily access any Slayer record you want. Christ Illusion is not a album that's hidden, buried deep underground. while it's popularity might grow a little with time, it will never suffer from the same BOOM old Slayer did when it was discovered by the metalheads of today and it will always be regarded as inferior.

Slayers early material wasn't particularly buried in the 80's. The Hell Awaits video got regular play on the TV rock shows I watched(this was prior to Reign in Blood) In 1988 I watched a late night in concert on TV that featured Slayer playing a full live show. Tommy Vance played them all the time on his radio rock show. In rock clubs I went to Chemical Warfare(later to be replaced by Angel of Death) was played and they got plenty of press coverage in the rock mags. The controvesy over Reign in Blood, Def Jam, Joseph Mengele, kicking Destruction off a tour, Dave Lombardo leaving because they wouldn't let his wife live on the tour bus insured them acres of column inches alone, that is before you count the regular interviews and live reviews they did that I can remember reading.
Granted the internet has made it easier and cheaper.
Plus the longer a band is in existance it's fan base should in theory keep expanding in numbers. Older fans getting nostalgic for their youth and new fans discovering an old band(I shall not say which sub group I fall under!!)

Its funny how Reing In Blood gets so praised up these days, considering I bought the album almost 17 years ago, I remember when liking slayer meant you were satanic, they were never the "in thing". What about South of Heaven, and Hell Awaits, kick ass slayer albums, but you never hear them mentioned. And slayer was huge when Seasons came out, everyone got a chance to hear it, their videos were playing all the time on MTV. Almost seems like its the "cool thing" now days to like reing in blood. My favorite is Divine, seems like it always will be, I dont like the new shit, doesnt seem to have the same intensity as before. Im thinking its probably cause of all the new kickass metal bands that popped up in the last few years. Its like slayer's just getting obsolete or im just getting bored of them. But at least their still thrash metal, ill give em that.

Nah they don't hate them. S.O.D. was just a huge piss take band who like to poke fun. Hence they did those 'Ballad of..' tunes plus they did Celtic Frosted Flakes which Tom G Warrior didn't find very funny and fell out with them and Seasoning the Obese which featured Slayer by numbers riffs and the cry 'DO YOU WANNA FRY!'

Ok, I thought the new slayer was tight. Most of the other people in this forum are cynics about any band that is more than 10 years old, or does not use incomprehensible growls. I can appreciate pretty much any metal that doesnt suck.
and about the leak, slayer put the entire album of their myspace page.
