About two years ago I bought a bv120h (the blue one) and a b-52 cab (the cheap one... and yeah I know. Ass.)

but I was happy for a while (my first tube amp) and then I was to broke to buy a better cab. Well finally Iv got some cash and I got a use crate BV cab (the blue one) which I have 30 days to return for a refund.

The sound is much better, a warmer tone, less static, crisper notes. But the thing is, I still dont like it. I played a peavey 6505+ in the store that I liked alot, so Im thinking maybe my setup just isnt doing it for me.

So what I want to know is if you tone experts also think the bv120h is crap, or if:
1. Maybe I need new tubes, (how do you know when thier bad?)
2. or maybe the used cab is messed up or something. (It was slightly kicked in on the bottom corner, but no noticeable speaker damage)

btw: I play an ESP Viper Standard (emg 81's), and my pedal board consists of: NS-2(noise suppressor), DD-3(delay, I rarely use), Cry baby, GE-7(EQ), TU-2(tuner)

im not that stupid, hehe. Its the blue one as I said; and the only ones that are blue come with vintage 30's.

So ok, change of thread topic: how do I know when my tubes are bad? Thier 2 years old right now, and if I remember correctly 2-3 years is the usual life expectancy. Do you think I should change them? if so could getting a differnt type of tubes improve my sound?

I have the same amp you do and i like it a lot. i'm not a huge fan of the 5150's so i'd probably prefer my set up over it.

and man, those standard speakers that ship with blue voodoo cabs and combos old and new sound worse than just about any speaker i cant think of. make sure it has the vintage 30 equiped tag, or look at the back of the speakers.

wow, ok maybe I am an idiot... there's no vintage 30 tag (but the crate logo is gone too, maybe the previous owner removed it?)

So I opened up the back (that was a bitch) and got the numbers for the speakers, no where does it say vintage 30's or celestion...

damn, if that fuckin prick lied to me hes gonna really get it. sorry, but damn Im pissed... Still don't know for sure though, on the Internet both cabs look pretty much identical, except for the celestion lable... which mine doesn't have...

any info on other differences between the SVB and SL would be appreciated.

ok did the final test I weighed the cab and it came out around 80 pounds, which is the weight of the cheaper one (the more expensive is 115 pounds) so you guys were right!
thank you thank you thank you. once again I am humbled by your knowledge of guitar amps.

im gonna return it tomorrow and im now thinking maybe Ill dish out the bucks for a mesa boogie cab or somthing, so then if I still dont like the voodoo ill just get a peavey or a mesa recto.
