Seriously, stop. We know, you dont need to keep reminding us that the only thing that surpasses your elitism is your close-mindedness.

Theres a fine line, and passing judgements on players who you think are playing bass improperly is crossing it.

Fucking stop already. This thread is about building muscle in the hands. If you want to finish this argument hop back over to the "Pick bassists shunned by finger bassists' thread. If not, then stick on topic.

This is from an article on building stamina by Tony Franklin in GFPM taken from the book "Bass Secrets":
"Ex. 3 is a Jaco favorite, the 6th interval scale, which also helps develop dexterity"

agreed, plus picks make it sound like a guitar instead of bass it makes it all treble and mid heavy, i hate the sound, the only way i agree to picking is if your in a grindcore band!!!!, it is a preference just a cruddy cheating preference!!!

I play fingerstyle too but did you ever hear John Glascock of Jethro Tull on Bursting Out? I was surprised to discover he played with a pick. Great feel and a great bassist.

Good job. He can put that in the thread where it belongs if he wants to pursue it further.

Now that is an excellent exercise! Thanks for posting it.
How fast can you all play it perfectly ... I can only do it very slowly

This exercise is a bitch! Really makes you stretch. Honestly, I probably play it about half the speed it should be played at but I'm getting better!

Stretch? There's no way you can play this without moving your hand, so there's really no stretching involved. For me it's the picking hand that makes it harder.
I agree with the speed not mattering that much. It's still the best exercise I've ever seen because it's not boring but also not too hard that you can't even learn it.

By stretch I meant stretch your abilities. You're right, the difficulty is in having to move your fingering hand and picking hand positions simultaneously.
I'm glad you like the exercise!

Naw, beating off is more for rhythm guitar playing.

about the pics: maybe you just cant use the pick and you're so angry about other bassist who can? :P I usually play with fingers technique - 3 + thumb, used to play with 4 + thumb but it was screwed :P - but sometimes I play with pick for relax.
About the topic: gripmaster helps alot. my small finger in left hand used to be so weak it hurt when I was using it while playing. After a little time using that device he is almost strong as much as the other ones are. It helps for the both hands though.
I've got to check out that exercise and then I will tell yo' what i thing 'bout that.

Gripmaster
Gripmasters are very good, I use the medium one and it has improved my speed and strength alot, especially in my plucking hand, but if you don't want to buy one of those you could just practice more...last time I checked, that helps alot. Or as Requiem mentioned...just burp the worm alot and another advantage to having strong hands and fingers...your girlfriend will throw out all her vibrators
~Cheers
