New Prog Rock Recommendations Please
Hey, I've been getting into a lot of new age prog rock lately and I was wondering if anyone could make me some recommendations for bands along the lines of:
Porcupine Tree
Tool
Anathema
Dead Soul Tribe
Riverside
Dark Suns
Preferably not instrumental-only bands.

Try Isis - a bit more metal but they're currently touring with Tool so that may give you an indication of where they're coming from artistically. Also try Jupiter by Cave In, one of the best prog/space rock albums around.
I strongly urge you to check out some of the instrumental bands out there as this seems to be where most of the creativity is currently residing. Bands like Pelican, Dysrhythmia and Red Sparowes are all excellent and highly recommended.

The Fall of Troy have a bit of a prog-influenced thing going on with their music, as do the Mars Volta. But I'm not sure thats what you are looking for.

The Mars Volta are a definate, but I think there are a lot of more important prog rock bands to listen to first. The new album "Amputechture" is great, by the way.

i also agree with mansley, dysrhythmia is amazing.

I'd say go for DeLoused...I personally like it better than amputechture.

De-loused is my favorite too. But both are better than Francis the Mute.
King Crimson.

Crimso's a little more spastic than his example bands. Start with Red.
