New IN FLAMES CD
got the new In Flames CD...i like it, but, its not really In Flames anymore...the CD has a power metal feel at times, and it seems they've gotten lazy and have stopped doing alot of single note harmonized riffs and stuff. Its a good CD, but there's a deffinate different feel then listening to anyother one of thier albums, almost as if its a different band alltogether. Its got a heavier sound, but again traces of power metal somehow have molded into the fold...i don't know if fans of thier older stuff will like this CD though.
the 2 songs i heard live off the new album sounded much better live then on the CD aswell...In Flames rules live.
who else has the damn CD!?

I'll start by saying that i barely know In Flames.
I don't have any cds or anything......but i did see them live and i was disappointed. From the amount of people talking about them here....i expected to see some cool gripping riffs with nice leads and harmonized everything.
What i saw was heavy riffs (which were somewhat gripping) and that's about it. I don't even remember if they even had a solo throughout their whole performance. Maybe they mostly played newer stuff (although FD says it was only 2 songs).....they all sounded about the same genre to me, and there wasn't anything special about them.

I probably won't ever get the chance to see them live, but from what I heard when I bought the live CD... I don't want to. Some great songs were ruined by having both guitars play the heavy rhythms (not always a bad thing) and the songs lost their charm because the distinct riffs that played over the top on the albums just weren't there.
I've seen some older live footage and was fairly impressed by their "tightness" and attention to the songs, but now I just don't see (hear) it.

i got the new cd. i actually think it sounds less mainstream than Clayman. the choruses are still catchy, but the riffs are not as melodic. one thing i noticed is that anders friden has participated a lot in the writing and making of the album...

You talking about "reroute to remain", right?
I donīt think it sounds so power-metalish.
They changed thatīs clear. In my opinion they became slower, but powerful. Iīm a bit disappointed with the vocals, they were powerfuller.
I saw them once live, last year in april. And it made a lot of fun, also i didnīt knew them on that date.

wat albums are Bullet Ride and Episode 666 on? i really dig those tunes and i'm hanging out to finaly go buy some in flames albums.
btw: i heard some of their older shit, and personly, i thought it fucking kicked ass!! then i downloaded the video to Only For The Weak and i thought that sucked something chronic. not just the video, but the entire song did. i heard a few other new tracks at my friends house and they were pretty poo IMO aswell. seems as though they've done a Soilwork, meaning, like soilwork, they were pretty cool, and just gone completely downhill. but thats just me.

but the fact that its STILL In Flames pisses me off. i don't care about huge line up changes if the music stays the same, or if it changes the name, then it doesn't lose the intended purpose of the founders (watever that might be)
quite like y i like the new nile album, its still very nile. but anyway..this is an in flames thread, so back to in flames.

older In Flames is deffinately the best...but i think i've figured them out:
They are following Fear Factory's path of getting crapier and crapier...When Fear Factory started w/the 7-string guitars, it was all down hill...now i know In Flames doesn't use 7 strings, but they have some songs in that tuning and well the album is lacking according to popular opinion here.
so is the new In Flames a must have...no...but its still good...Is it a must have within the In Flames series...no.

Well, I got Reroute to Remain the other day and I have to say... I like it. Sure, if you're only a hardcore metal fan you won't like it. Admittedly it's less "technical" (by many people's definitions of the word) and the old In Flames is almost non-existant (except for the occasional celtic feel that appears in tracks like 'Dawn of a New Day'), but many of the songs are quite emotional and have a semi epic sound to them. I've been listening to it for days now and can't stop... it's awesome!

I listened to it in the store the other day. It never took off, and I didn't like the vocals this time. Too electronic. Some nice riffs still, though, and quite catchy. But I won't buy it. I really liked the acoustic track, nr6 or 7, I think.
I think they have too many songs, so all of them sound alike.
It is no Whoracle or Jester Race...........

Does anyone know the fate of the Trigger EP? Does anyone have it? It was supposed to be release in June... was it?

imo reroute isnt that bad...its just different from the previous inflames works...i'm not a big fan of post-jester race inflames but still clayman was good...reroute is all too jumpy & seems very electronic (to me)...my fav would always be lunar strain, jester race, whoracle followed by subterreannean

Nice album, but choruses in the leading four songs or so are like too freakin' beeing-happy-shit or something, can't really explain... But hmm it was a small shock for me, luckily i'm not THAT fanatic..

1. Trigger
2. Watch Them Feed
3. Land of Confusion
4. Cloud Connected (Club Connected Remix)
5. Moonshield (C64 Karoke Version)
Trigger is the radio edit version.
Watch Them Feed is a new song.
Land of Confusion is a Genesis cover.
That's about it I guess..
The C64 Karoke Version of Moonshield is funny. The chorus of Land of Confusion totally fucking blows, mainly because its a Genesis cover I'm guessing.

Trigger was one of the better tracks off R.T.R. - sounds like it's straight off Colony, except for a slight difference in the guitar sound, and the voice harmony in the choruses (which I think are annoying and a little fruity). Tempo's a little slower too. Either way, if that's the whole tracklist and just has a radio edit of Trigger, I think I'll not bother.

I read/heard a lot of thing about R2R before it came out. I heard that "they're all mainstream now" and "most of the songs dont have solos", and when they do they're "keyboard solos." Then when I got Reroute to Remain, I was glad to see those sayings were all false. The only thing that really stuck out as being changed was Anders voice. Im not sure if I like the change that much, but within a week, I didnt really notice. It was Anders. And I cant believe some people call them nu metal now. Look at songs like "Egonomic" and "Transparent" are even more non-mainstream that most of their stuff.
I listen to the cd now with the other, and I really dont see that much of a difference. I love all their stuff.
As for them live, I saw them at this years hellfest, and I thought they were great. Only until this week did i find out they were having sound problems, and they still sounded good. The one thing that really stuck out was Daniel. This is a man who almost never smiles in In Flames' videos, promo pics, or anything. But the whole set, he had the hugest grin all over. I thought that was great, but I'm a douchebag so....
yeah.....theres my opinion about In Flames
(and yeah, the remix of Moonshield is realy funny sounding)
As for soilwork, I think that Figure Number Five is better than Natural Born Chaos, and I know most of you probably hate both, but I like their new cd alot.(And yes, i have heard their older stuff, and I like that just as much)
My last comment (finally) is that whomever said Fear Factory went downhill when they started using seven strings.......havent they used seven strings for most of their career? I love most of their stuff up until Digimortal, and theres stuff off that thats pretty good too. I guess i can just find things in most everything i listen to that i like.....oh well

I think with this album they were trying to appeal more to an Amreican fan base. More melodic, less death influence, more techno, shit like that. Plus, Anders was aorking on his side band, Passenger too, so some of that sound may have leaked over during recording. It was decent though, Reroute to Remain I mean, it had it's moments. I can listen to about the first half and maybe Black and White, but then it becomes kind of boring. The trigger e.p. was a bad move. They were already being ridiculed for being too mainstream, and then they go and release "Club Conected". On the other hand though, I wouldn't listen to critics either. Either way though, the Trigger e.p. seems like a waste of money to me.

The clean vocals are ok but the screaming parts are fuckin brutal.

Jester Race is my personal favorite, but the two early albums and Black Ash inheritance E.P. are all pretty brutal. Anders was also on the first few Dark Tranquility albums, which kick ass.

I will start out by saying that I know a shitload about In Flames. They used to be mt favorite bandm and I used to listen to them day and night. I loved their old albums the first two and the first two EPs. Then came Whoracle. I will admit that that is a great album. Colony was ok, it had its moments and was generally ok. Clayman; the riffs were simplistic and the CD was not too great. Reroute to Remain, fuckin sucks ass. Its nu-metal and it sucks. I would probably rather listen to Anal Cunt and call it good music,(even though it is hilarious).
