Doctor is pretty much right it's all in the wrist. Typical Ska riff starts with a downstroke stop (kinda hard to explain) and you play whatever chord you're in upstroked.

The hypothetical Nirvana example is far too specific to be applied here and inappropriate in any case since only an infinitessimally small percentage of Nirvana fans dedicated enough to post on a Nirvana forum will have heard a death metal riff whereas I can guarantee that at least 95% of folk here have heard a multitude of ska riffs and songs on the radio.

I genuinely believe that there is a lot to be learnt from metal guitarists, as they often incorporate myriad styles into their playing. Granted, ska is difficult to integrate into metal playing due to the more markedly upbeat nature, but there must be someone here who knows a trick or two. If so, help the guy out; if not belt your trap shut.

What Zionist thought, probably wrongly from the responses, was that metal guitarists are broadminded, have a wide range of skills and are technically more adept than, say, a grunger. How sad that only a small handful of his fellow metalheads bothered to help him out.

And why not ask the question in a forum where you are amongst people you know rather than signing up to another forum and being treated like a noob with the same sort of responses that are dished out here? Wouldn't you ask advice from people you are familiar with before asking a stranger? It seems logical, to me at least, to act in the way Zionist has.
