i hate guitarists!!

hey guys im in a hard rock band with 2 guitarists. We brought in my best friend to play lead.He writes awesome solos but the founder of the band the rythym player is complaining that on our songs we cant come up with things for them both to play. And that the he cant hear the note changes.Any tips on getting a clearer sound or advice for any of the problems?

scooping the mids is the slang term for lowering the EQ setting of your midrange.

well. that line 6. yep. solid state amps suck balls esp spiders. i can see how a guitar with EMG's thru a tube amp (i assume you mean 2000) would over power a gibson thru a spider.

There is an interesting thread on this forum, "Harmonies - how do they work" that may also be a remedy.
Please excuse my rash judgement, but I get a very whiny feeling here. He don't like the sound? Sit down with your band mates and equipment and start turning things around.
And I might add in - since I got my first electric a bit over a year ago I have made it a regular amusement to try out just about anything the stores has in store. And when it was time for the new amp, the digitals where not even in the competition.

FUCK I HAAAATTTEE Cunts that complain about not having an equal share in the leads. This is why hard rock bands are fucking gay, simple 3 chord progressions and then you get some guy with a metallica tone busting out minor and pentatonic leads.

and lets face it, there have been no good Hard Rock bands originating since the late 80's. Everything since is pure crap.

My best advice to you: Tell your rythym guitarist to shut the fuck up, kick a whole in your drummer's snare, and leave the shitty hard rock band for something better. A technical metal band, a jazz / fusion band, fucking anything but a boring, unoriginal hard rock band.

you could get to experiment?

select different pickups for particular parts of the song?

get them to harmonise in 5ths if its more classic rock and if he cannot hear the notes maybe bring the volume down a bit?

before you play get one guitarist to just play scales while another plays chords and make sure they can hear each other and seperate the notes that way. Then reverse who is playing the scales.

With scooping the mids - I used to have my mid about 4 while the other guitarist was at about 8 and we didn't have a problem.
Hope some of that helps

If you are writing your own songs your 2nd guitarist has no excuses for blubbering! If he's contributing to the writing process why is he not adding sections where they can both play lead solos, trade off licks or lead fills, or harmonies. Why not play the riffs different from each other, ovtave apart, power chords over a riff or miss bits out of the riff so the 2nd guitar fills them in. Why not have a melody line, or plucked part, or one play palm muted the other un palm muted, one play clean etc. The possibilities are endless! Just because you have 2 guitars doesn't mean they have to double each other up on the riffs!

Are you sure this isn't just sour grapes from the founder member because another guitarist is getting the attention?
