chapman stick bass

Just discovered them
Ive been looking to greatly extend my range for some time, but I diddnt wantto just run out and buy something on impulse
I just recently saw the sb8 or 8 string stick bass and I was wondering about their versatility
I know they were built mainly for tapping but are they also decent for regular plucking, and slapping etc.?

A Warr is designed to integrate Chapman-style touch playing with traditional playing. I haven't played either instrument, but I'd assume that the Warr was created because the Chapman didn't allow the integration of traditional bass techniques with its various kickass possibilities.

But I'm no expert here.

Pst is quite right. Im not too sure either on the versatility on a Chapman stick, but it can all be done with a Warr. If I suddenly won lotto, I would definantly buy a Warr, as a guitarist, for some serious difference.

well they have better deals than ct
theres a ugly ass ct bass for sale for 5700 dollars and I could get a piezo 14 string neck through for that price
but thats not really what I was looking for,
maybe I should just find a 9 string bass
is conklin good for it?

Well a Conklin 9 string would be pretty pricey as well. Maybe you could look into getting an 8 or 10 string bass, the ones that are the same size as 4 and 5 strings with extra octaves doubling each string, like a 12 string acoustic. Those sound pretty spiffy.

Not necessarily, piezo pickups just pick up the vibration of the string which gives the bass a very acoustic-like sound. So you could have a bass with just piezo pickups but it would only sound like an acoustic, thats why they typically also have magnetic pickups to you can blend the sounds. MIDI is short for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, having a MIDI output on your bass just allows you to control things like synths and stuff. The MIDI signal is just a message that triggers something like a patch (strings, trumpet, flute) in some sort of MIDI processor.

No, a piezo bridge works by picking up the vibrations of the strings through the saddles of the bridge, so you don't need other pickups- obviously you can have them, you'll just be able to switch between the two

Well of course, when I said "piezo pickups" I was referring to the pickups that are in the bridge itself. Im sorry, I should have been more specific.

Assuming I had the money I would probably go with the conklin, but thats just me. Although you can get the warrs tuned to pretty much whatever. I just think the whole half guitar, half bass set up is weird. The chapmans look like they would be uncomfortable and I can't imagine slapping in that position.
