Speaker Selection and OHM

Wondering what speakers to install in my soon to be ordered Avatar 412. I'll be running a Blue Voodoo 300 HB.

I have very little knowledge about this stuff. I play mostly Prog/Power Metal, and a bit of Thrash and Black/Death.

I see Celestions are prasied for general metal playing, and I've seen suggestions for four Vintage 30s, four G12t-75s, two of each in a criss-cross pattern, among others, but I'm not sure which set-up would be right for me.

Also, I've tried looking into OHM (need to choose from 4 ohm mono, 8 ohm mono, 16 ohm mono, 4 ohm stereo, 8 ohm stereo and 16 ohm stereo),, and not only do I not know which to choose, I have no idea what ohm means. If anyone has a suggestion or an explanation, that would be of grate help as well.

Thanks.

the most common is to have four 16 ohm speakers, so you can wire them up for 16 or 4 ohms mono, or 8 ohms per side stereo.

or you can have four 8 ohm speakers wired for 8 ohms mono, or 16 ohm per side stereo.

Here's your start. Like xDx said in the first line of his statement, "the most common is to have four 16 ohm speakers, so you can wire them up for 16 or 4 ohms mono, or 8 ohms per side stereo." I think this is the best setup, but other configurations are possible too.

I kind of get it. When you say 16ohm, do you mean Stereo or Mono? Didn't quite catch that part.

And any speaker advice?

As far as speakers goe since no one has commented, a criss cross pattern of V30's and GT-75's would be a super brutal cab for metal but I wouldnt recommend it for anything else (this is the configuration that Bogner uses for their "Uber-cab"). Four vintage 30's would be good for metal/rock, and a criss cross of V30's and H30's would be good for metal/rock/blues/anything else but wouldnt be quite as mean as the V30/GT-75 combo.

First off, thanks alot for all the info. It's very helpful.

About the ohm though, I read that it needs to match the head (I belive mine is 4ohm). Will getting the 16 ohms still allow compatibility?

And do I order 16 stereo ohms, or 16 mono ohms, to get the 16/4 mono 8 stereo options?

What speakers would u use in a 2x12? 2 swamp things? 1 governor, 1 swamp thing? 2 governors?

I want a good heavy crunch distorted but also bell like cleans with a blue voodoo 120watt head in a clased back avatar. What would u recommend?
