Question on recording effect
How do you get the negative minutes and seconds to come out on a track like if you wanted to put filler noise or a hidden track? (i.e.Track 5: -4:30) and would it be at all possible on Garageband on a MAC?

i do not know specifics but this is a mastering question, not really a recording question, there are mastering programs which allow you to organize how a CD will be balanced, burned, etc.

Negative minutes???? What are you smoking??
Are you sure you dont just have your cd player on reverse time like many do? An intro track, is track #1, starts at 0:00. You can have 99 tracks, the minimum of each is 4 seconds. So a negative is impossible and probably will not be recognised by most cd players. Ive been recording bands for years and never heard of this, so let me know if im actually wrong... and tell me why.

i will look through my CD's to try to find an example...the negative minutes will only show if you play thru the CD...not if you jump to a certain track...therefore such a negative intro would be impossible on the first track...the only CD i can think of off of the top of my head is the Anti-Flag Mobilize CD which you will most likely not be familiar with...

it's possible... uncommon but possible. tracks that are in the negative space.
her candane did this on their cd "could be nothing to some" there is a negative track between tracks 4 and 5. it's their(at that time) popular breakdown/intro that they did at shows. so instead of making it just a 25 second track, they stuck it on there like a hidden feature.
so say for example you have a negative track between track 1 and track 2, you either have to play through track 1 to hear it, or skip to track to and rewind into it. so you can't just skip to the negative space without fast forward or rewind or just playing the song before it. making it almost "hidden".

Well an example that I know of, the thing that inspired me to do it, as a matter of fact, is on most of the tracks of Mudvayne's LD 50 album. I remember it from way back when it came out and I thought that was the coolest thing. And I don't mean putting negative minutes/seconds on before Track 1 begins, I mean in between, lets say, Track 5 and 6. If anyone has that album or have heard it before should know what I'm talking about. Thanx for all the input on this guys. It really helps me alot
