that kind of reply is unproductive.
to the thread starter. both greg and dimitri do not scream per se. they are more yelling vocalists. this is resulted from yelling. it is hard to emulate yelled vocals because unlike screaming, it is almost impossible to match another's yell.

What i was thinking ^ well that sucks but the thing is like does everyones yell sound like shit to themselves and they get over it or can you really tell when your yell is good

record yourself and i will tell you. i'm sure its not that bad. its hard to get accustomed to liking a new voice you use and it just takes practice.

Yelling is like any other singing style that comes from your head and not from your gut: hard to do and shitty sounding at first. But if you practice it well, like anything else, you'll get better at it and hopefully sound better too.

You have to find your vocal "range", and compare it to that of the band you want to emulate. Im not really into DEP, but i could suggest trying to sing/scream along while you record both tracks. This way you will see the highs/lows that are not accessable. It really is hard to emulate someone elses scream or yelling voice.
Im a vocalist but i can only do hardcore screaming and shit if i have like 8 beer in me. I used to drink before a show and still do especially before recording (which im currently doing :P ) Makes a difference but only in your confidence level.

Screaming is the only vocal form I don't use my gut.

You should be yelling from your head too, and there are types of singing that only work right if you're busting your facial capillaries doing it. But if you only scream outside of your normal range, then yeah, that's all you'll do.
I actually do a lot of vocals from the head, whenever I want the strain to come through. Or when I'd like to pass out without drinking or being tired.

I just can't make screaming sound good. If anyone could teach me to sound like Devin Townshend I'd really give them a rimjob or something.
