BBE Sonic Maximizer

Ok well I was looking around for some new pedals and I came across the band Job For A Cowboy and one of hteir guitarists uses the BBE Sonic Maximizer, and I love the sound he has, but while looking around to see exactly what it does I never came up with a clear answer. So can some please tell me exactly how this pedal effects your sound, does it just tighten it up and add presence or what not? And if it is something I'd like to get do you think the rack mount would be better then the pedal version? Thanks alot guys.

I've heard the pedal works really good. I have two rack mount units.I only use one though. The sonic maximizer is basically an eq that can boost
the lows and highs while tightening up the sound.

A BBE Sonic Maximizer works by phase and amplitude correcting certain frequencies that get distorted by the output speakers.

Ok, I read the link Necrovore posted, but being as tired as I am and the lack of knowledge that I have when it comes to frequencies and what not, I still find myself confused. Is this used for recording or playing at high volumes? I'm lost, can someone clear it up for me a little. I appreciate it guys.

I would describe it as 'pulling off the blanket that is covering up your amp'.

Yea I have the pedal, no different sound wise than the rackmount. The blanket description is probably the most accurate as far as what it does to your tone. Its essentially a super specific EQ that boosts certain frequencies to compensate for shortcomings in loudspeakers.

Yes, it's good for everything as long as you don't over do it. The new pedal model uses the 4th generation processor and is the same as the unbalanced rack model.

It helps you setup to breath fire once adjusted correctly. I love my BBE

i grew out of the bbe myself, it now sits in my PA where it belongs. my amps have to do the sound i want naked or they're out.

but some people like the sound of them, so more power to them.

Yeah I notice that happens to me all the time as well. I always like to try out stuff in my signal chain but I seem to always revert back to guitar>amp>cabinet.

I have the rack mount and I think they sound pretty good depending on your amp. I find it cleans up the muddiness a bit and shapes the sound. So seeing as your sig says you have a 6505 I would give it a try, but if you ever get a super high end head I don't think it would be necassary anymore.

BBE Sonic Maximizers are awesome. When my old band was 'mastering' our homemade demo, adding a BBE plug-in on the post-effects made so much difference it was unbelievable. [Just don't go insane on the settings, subtley is the key here.] I've even used them to remix shitty old black metal demos back to 'audible' quality.

Absolutly I couldn't live without mine. It adds the sparkle back to my tone that I lose via my GT-8. I got about 50 feet of cable in my setup because I use the 4cord method with my Boss. Even with active pickups and buffers I still lose some signal, but the BBE brings everything back to life.

Thats probably why I like mine so much, I run my set up the same way.

I'd be interested to see how well the pedal works because its not run after the pre-amp ( well I'm guessing thats what you'll be doing cuz if its in the fx loop or where ever you could just use the rack mount one).

I am surprised someone hasn't come up with an EQ pedal named "The Turd Polisher". I'd buy it.
