two EMG-81's...any point to that?

Hey, i've got 1 emg-81 pickup in my washburn WI64dL, i disconnected the stock bridge pickup because i dont need it. It really sounds kickass with just with emg-81. Would there be any point of having an emg81 in the neck and bridge? i see alot of players use the 81's for both. i play alot of leads so im looking for that kinda sound.

So is there any point ?

so, do you have just the one 81 in the neck?

two 81's will change your tone drastically depending on what position ur three way switch is in...i guess i need more info on where this one 81 is

if you want to tighten up your sound a bit maybe....it will make it sound different...its hard to describe how and if this will be what you want

Puting another EMG 81 in the neck will very much so sound different to the bridge one.Pickup position plays a large part of the tonality of the pickups.
I say yes,go for it.Or consider another neck pickup.

Are you saying you have no pickup at all in the bridge position??

If so, get another pickup in there now!

If not, then I don't know what you're saying, but I had 2 EMG 81s in my Ibanez and it rocked. Kirk Hammet uses that combination too if you care.

I use a pair of 81's in my RG2620 and it's pretty hot. If you want more mids/crunchier sound in the bridge try an 85.

If there isnt enough clearance under the strings then your strings are WAYY too low. Most metal guitarists never use anyting except their bridge pickup for heavy distortion so I would definitely get one.

Well i only got 1 pickup hooked up which is the 81 in the bridge. But it seems like theres something missing. i play alot of leads and the 81 sounds excellent. i see kirk hammet uses 2 81's. so would you think it would be a good idea to get another 81 for the neck?

As I said before, an 81 sounds fine in the neck.

well i guess i will get another 81 for the neck. so i will have a set of 81's. I hope theres enough room for another battery. I also want to get this thing called an SP switch. it boosts your presense. and makes it crunch alot more!!

You won't need another battery if you put in a second 81.

Yeah, and any additional EMG things like the Afterburner switch will also run off the same battery. There are instructions on the EMG site for running the power at 18 volts if you want 'increased headroom' but for me and probably you, 9 volts is fine

ok so its going to be like this, the bridge emg-81 will have it's own volume and tone nob. the neck emg-81 will have its own volume and tone nob. both connected to the same battery.

Don't post about pickups in the guitar zone.

you know what would be a great idea for a thread. is to have recordings of certain pickups being played clean dirty. etc. you get the idea. like another pickup thread but your just showing what the pickups would sound like. its alot easier then just taking somones word on it.

Yes, considering everyone's opinion of an ideal tone is different. Which is why I trust very few people on this site for gear advice (that also has to do with people not knowing what they are talking about).

I've heard of two 81's but I've never heard them in action. i didn't realize that it would actually AFFECT the sound...

You better damn well trust my advise I plan on having a studio PC that I can record quality EMG tone differences by the end of this year. Stand by, bitches. It is coming.

Yeah, you and all the Gear regulars I trust.
We all know a good bit, but everyone needs advice sometimes.
